#36 | Bed Springers | these things will spring you out of bed in the morning….

Episode Summary

Ricky and Flav discuss “bed springers”: the things that make getting up in the morning feel exciting rather than difficult. Holidays, early flights, birthdays, family occasions and football matchdays reveal different sources of anticipation. Does enthusiasm need a major event, or can a hotel breakfast and a small personal ritual be enough? The hosts compare everyday routines with mornings they remember looking forward to. Reflections on work and career add another angle, while a daughter’s birthday provides a family example of how shared traditions can give an ordinary day a very different start.

Getting willing to drill music. Rick. Drill music? Yeah. How? I don't know, I just like unknown t. It's just if you listen to unknown T, it's drill music. Right? And I'm not going to profess to explain what I know what it is. I'm at least two decades too old to be listening to it. But, you know, there's some thoughts.

00:00:23:13 – 00:00:42:19
Yeah. You know, there's something some somehow it's just transcend. Right. And he's he's flow. And if you like hip hop, you can appreciate these things okay. It's just a flow. And where his delivery and his voice is so kind of unique to me that I can't stop listening to it. I've had these two albums, these first two albums on repeat for about two weeks.

00:00:42:21 – 00:01:10:04
His name is unknown. T yeah, I, I don't know, I sort of an unknown truth. You know, I also have a realization that this week Rick. Yeah. Going I don't want to be called Flav anymore. Well, I don't mind. I don't mind being called Flav. Obviously. I don't like food. The podcast is fine. Absolutely fine. Yeah. I just don't want to introduce myself as Flav Bateman because I never get Flav.

00:01:10:04 – 00:01:22:18
Bateman was never my name. It was just my Twitter handle and obviously they're just gone. However, when I get booked for something, they just go on Twitter and go, that must be his name. Weird name, but must be his name. What are you gonna do? I'm not gonna do anything. I'm just going to keep doing it to a mode.

00:01:22:18 – 00:01:40:14
But I'm. I'm just saying that we should just gone with Gary Flavell. Please. That's. It's my name in it. It's. I'm 43 now, and we get introduced. So, what's your name? You know, the worst ones you get, like, new growth, new news, UK building what you download. And I'm like, I have no idea what I'm done is, is it Flav?

00:01:40:14 – 00:02:03:19
Bateman. No. Okay. Is it Gareth? No. Is it, is it Gary Flavell? No. How's that fucking. What am I gonna can or not? Yeah, well. Yeah. You were right back in the day when we started the fighting cock rig. We just said it's just Ricky. Yeah. Just Ricky. Well, I mean, it's Ricky TFC and people do refer to me as Ricky TFC.

00:02:03:21 – 00:02:30:12
Oh, is. And then when people do that as well, they're like. Like they get bit confused because they expected it to be t HFC, you know, what's the horsepower. No, no no the fighting car that's oh God. Oh God. Other night I see like Band of Brothers playing tunes. Hi is quite midnight waves surfing through till daylight breaks.

00:02:30:16 – 00:02:56:15
Rhythm hit us different ways. Love of music that we prayed with our tongues in cheek. Band is that we like to speak. And yeah, times change. But no matter what the bond remains. Brothers. Hello and welcome to Lads anonymous. It's episode 36, a podcast about two best mates of over 20 years invited to join their safe space where all manner of subjects will be discussed.

00:02:56:17 – 00:03:21:02
We'll focus on a specific subject matter first and then answer your questions, dilemmas or need for advice or handled anonymously. So sit back, relax and enjoy the podcast. How's it going, Flav? Everything's going right. I'm looking forward to the weekend. Ricky boy. Yeah, my yeah. So Saturday is going to be fucking every day. So friend of the show.

00:03:21:02 – 00:03:34:15
And actually I hope you don't mind me saying this week you can't mind me saying this because you know, no code. No no no no no no no no. You know what I'm talking about, don't you? I know what, you'd be a freak. Imagine if you took me aside and said no, that was unacceptable. Don't do that, slap.

00:03:34:17 – 00:03:56:05
Can you do me a favor? Can you edit that bit out? Yeah. So we a friend of the show, and, you know, someone I've been speaking to and on and off for the last couple of years. Jay. He, he won a competition through juice and 2 to 2 higher juice. And to write.

00:03:56:07 – 00:04:21:21
Ten tickets in a box. AJ verses Dan with the ball. All the food and drink you can possibly consume. Hosted by Ricky. That is just. And he was like an insane price. And then he went, he wrote me off and it's a bit weird, but I don't really like boxing at all. It's not my thing. Do you want to do this?

00:04:21:22 – 00:04:46:21
I was like, yeah, yeah, well, that sounds like the high for that. Like a serious. I could sort that out. Jay. Thank you very much, mate. But so. So what? What? It just felt like it was completely unfair for us to be given this amazing opportunity. Say, this is my. I'm taking my family and my wife and a couple of others to conclude.

00:04:46:23 – 00:05:11:19
But it just seemed completely unfair the way this was weighted and, and like, we just we decided that there was something that we could do in order to sort of help pay for this. Anyway, someone connected to Jay's. They had, a daughter called Poppy, who in 2021, I believe, she, she felt that she couldn't go on anymore for several reasons.

00:05:11:19 – 00:05:41:13
And, she took her own life. And so what I thought we could do is try and raise as much money as possible for the, a walk that we're doing for Poppy to raise money for. It's a, a prevention of youth suicide, I think is papyrus is the charity. So if you're all moved by that or enjoy Lads Anonymous and have a surplus income and you might want to donate to that, you can do that.

00:05:41:15 – 00:06:06:15
But go into just given.com/page/poppy walk. The link will also be in the description of this podcast. And, give as much as you feel comfortable to give. So yeah. Thank you Joe. Yeah. And, you know, let's raise some more money. Yeah, man. Yeah. Just to reiterate, just give some money, man. You know, just do anything you can.

00:06:06:15 – 00:06:28:12
Anything that you can muster. Five, ten, whatever it might be, it all go to an amazing cause. So, so cheers for doing that. The, the last podcast that we did, I like first of all, I don't know how we how we got there and it was the what goes in and what goes out. Yeah.

00:06:28:14 – 00:06:49:16
It, I didn't know how I was going to kind of write a show and what it was going to send it around. I've had maybe 6 to 7 messages saying it was the best episode yet. So this is this is a podcast based on what goes in or out of an ass. Yeah. That's correct. That's coming back to it yet because it was often North London derby.

00:06:49:16 – 00:07:12:11
So I wasn't ready to listen to anything. So I haven't listened back to it yet. So I like, you know, we've done podcasts on addiction, unhappiness, on, you know, all the things in life that touch all of us in one way or another. But somehow this is where it's at. Is it? Yeah, of course it is. Yeah. Bomb house.

00:07:12:11 – 00:07:31:23
Where? And you know what? All right, I made for it. Yeah, I'm fucking here for it. This is the community that we've built. Yeah, and I am fucking here for it. So there was a couple of other stragglers that sent in of what people have. Well, what's been found in people's bottoms, while they were working in A&E.

00:07:31:24 – 00:08:00:21
So a female patient came in. To cut a long story short, the issue was she had the carcass of a dead pigeon stuck up her vagina. I know it's not bomb, but it's just like, why? And maybe the best part is, she claims she had no idea how it got there. I don't believe that. No, I mean, if it was life, then, like, I possibly I was going to say possibly flew in there.

00:08:00:21 – 00:08:16:13
It's never going to just fly in there, but like a dead one, right? You know how it got in there. We know how it got in that jumped it up, you know. Yeah. Just it's, shut the dead pigeon up in the end. What's wrong with.

00:08:16:15 – 00:08:40:15
I'll get it. Like some menus in the world, right? The mad stuff. But that is fucking crazy. That is too far. And then another one. A guy came in with a fully inflated rugby ball up his ass. It is he. I don't know, he was saying. Are you sending these stories in? Who are they? It. Well, we they're anonymous, but they know the show.

00:08:40:17 – 00:09:08:19
They know the show and they work in the off the field of asses. Well, they work in A&E and he said he had inserted the ball while it was deflated, and it proceeded to pump it up while it was inside him. They told him he needed surgery and he discharged himself. He jumped on his bike and cycled home, say had an inflated rugby ball up his ass, jumped on his bike and cycled.

00:09:08:24 – 00:09:28:10
He didn't. The calm he he was back two hours later because he tried to pop the rugby ball in his bum with a screwdriver, so he couldn't. No. Course. Yeah. So yeah. So I love that. So. So he's in the hospital bed, right. He's in A&E and he's gone. Fuck, I know I can do it. Just bolts it out the hospital.

00:09:28:10 – 00:09:43:24
I'm going to stick a screwdriver up my ass, deflate it and then just pull it out. So what is he. He's he put a knee. He's so angry. It. What? Well, I need an operation. I do that, mate. You can deflate this. All you got to do is pop it. No no no no no no no no no, I'm going to go.

00:09:43:24 – 00:09:57:15
I'm, No, I'll do it. I'm not. If you can't do it. Oh, fucking I love. That's proper good, man. I think he's not. Try to get involved. Try to get a screwdriver. I've tried to do some of these. Come back with these, as I say, tail between his legs, but more like a rugby ball between his legs.

00:09:57:15 – 00:10:16:04
And he's like, no, I can't, I can't do this. That was too difficult. I thought it was gonna be easy, but what turns out was difficult. So we actually take it out. I don't believe it was. So he's put on an, inflated rugby ball up his ass and then pumped it up, then pumped it up for a laugh or uttered a well, I mean, it's a rugby.

00:10:16:04 – 00:10:42:12
That's it's probably part of, an initiation or something cos you seen, you've seen light. You see, I've seen, I've seen stuff on the internet. Yeah. I've, I've partakes in the ingestion of, you know, substances that have made you a little bit more adventurous than you would normally be. Right. See what you mean. Yeah, yeah. And I've seen some mental stuff.

00:10:42:14 – 00:11:05:10
Mental stuff. Like there's this there's this thing with alien tentacles. You see that? All right. Octopus arms, tentacles. There's a whole thing I think it's in. It is connected to. What's that? Sort of. I think it's Japanese. It's like a sexual cartoon. Jeff. Right. It's quite a hentai hentai. It's called. Yeah, okay. Yeah yeah yeah yeah. And it was so.

00:11:05:12 – 00:11:28:13
But the people are in the cartoons, right? And shoving massive tentacles up their ass. Isn't that not what I'm looking at? And. Like what? You can't, Something massive up there of what do you get watching it? I think you should do it to see what they are getting out of it. I, I told you, I can't even.

00:11:28:15 – 00:11:49:22
We established last week we can't even get our own fingers of it. The pathetic we off the flag. I think you feel less of a man now because I can't put things up my own ass for some reason. This might make you feel better. After a Spotify comment in total agreement with Flav, I don't get the obsession with A-levels.

00:11:49:24 – 00:12:13:21
People must be bored with their sex life to even consider it. Keep it clean peeps. So it's not. We are in. We are in the minority, right? Because there are a lots of. I think it's mainly men that are obsessed with putting putting their plonker in their business. So but I've never been, I've never been obsessed by it at all, and I never I'm not that bothered.

00:12:13:23 – 00:12:32:04
Yeah. I'm not obsessing about my wife's relief. She just doesn't have to worry about it. Whereas other wives out there, I think this is a daily concern. So I wonder if he wants to put out my ass tonight. Like my, my, my work never has to worry about. It daily can says he's just there on a lunch break, just tucking into a Sunday.

00:12:32:06 – 00:12:57:20
Oh, God. Just imagine tonight's the night he wants to put in my Bible again. Yeah. We had a dilemma last week of, a bunch of lads. He had a WhatsApp group and who shared their farts, first of all, and then their poos. And somebody else says, we have a, we have a WhatsApp group exactly the same called only Farts, which I thought was, very nice.

00:12:57:20 – 00:13:18:15
That's a Spotify comment. Very nice and, well, nice. Not very nice. I don't I don't hate the name. I don't want to know any more about horrible groups. Or horrible WhatsApp groups. Just don't want to know about it. You've you've had you've created a couple new ones on you this week. Well, I haven't created any WhatsApp groups.

00:13:18:16 – 00:13:42:01
You've been involved. You've received content from people. Oh, yeah. I have to say he knows who he is. Listen to this fucking pain is who he is. He and he is in absolute pain. Yeah. Hey, he thought it was after listening to the episode and what we spoke about, but he showed me his prized turnouts. So thank you very much for that and remain anonymous.

00:13:42:05 – 00:14:06:07
I know who you are. Yeah. One of them was a prize. I know it's bloody good effort. Bloody good effort. So. And someone has kindly sent in a load of topics for us to discuss. Video games. Favorite non-sports events, inspirations, food, siblings and money and I like the sound of the money one. I like all of the all of those sound good siblings.

00:14:06:09 – 00:14:21:21
Yeah, I've got a lot of siblings to me. Oh fucking hell yeah. Yeah, yeah. One of my siblings could have ended up with one of your siblings. Well, yeah, that that was, that was a horrible time in my life. Were horrible in of my life.

00:14:21:23 – 00:14:50:20
Let's let's go to those make. They sound good. Okay. Lovely stuff. If you want to follow lads anonymous on any social media, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, whatever, you know where to find us at, lads. 00:14:50:20 – 00:15:11:22
You know, where you send all your mates the means, the funny videos, the fucking people falling over and stuff like that. If you see one of our reels or TikToks that you like, that one of your friends would appreciate the humor, or you want to show them the podcast that you want to listen to, please send it over to I as a DM.

00:15:32:24 – 00:15:58:08
That would be much appreciated. Appreciated. Now we are going to jump into today's topic and the topic is called bed. Spring is now. These are things that make you jump out of your bed. Now I am the fucking. I wouldn't say I'm the worst morning person going, but I find it really hard to get going in the morning and I would.

00:15:58:10 – 00:16:36:10
I would love. And part of my routine is when I wake up scrolling my phone for a good hour. Now this isn't me just watching mindless videos on TikTok. It's just checking social accounts of lots anonymous person accounts, accounts I manage for, business and stuff like that. And that's so it's just kind of like I'm going through my emails, but even if I wasn't doing that, I'd much prefer to lay in my bed and drink 2 or 3 coffees before I get out.

00:16:36:12 – 00:16:53:24
Then I'll put like jogging bottoms on one downstairs, stick the telly on, then I'll go and have a shower and stuff like that. But there are people out there. I don't know who that just sit upright in their bed as soon as they've woken up. My wife to get on with the day, jump in the shower to just get up, just get some of it.

00:16:54:01 – 00:17:13:18
Doesn't matter what time, what she when she's at work or what we're doing, she's up before. I don't think I've ever seen her in bed after 8:00. She's always up. What fucking hell? Really? For real? For real? Yeah. Just. Just. She'll be up like there'll be something to. She does shape shift patterns, right? Like this morning. She was.

00:17:13:18 – 00:17:33:14
She. She's not in at work till 11:00. I've got to take the kids up to school at eight. Right. She was up before me. Yeah. She just she just. She just just doesn't want to sit around like I could sit in line, but I didn't want to get up this morning. I reckon if I hadn't opened my eyes, had a quality night sleep last night.

00:17:33:14 – 00:17:58:04
One of the. I don't often have a good night's sleep. It's a drink too much, right? So you just you get to you get to about 4 or 5:00 in your body just goes it just the consumption of alcohol really impacts the quality of sleep. It's really bad for you. Right. So anyway, I decided I wasn't gonna have a drink last night, and, and just obviously fell asleep and just had a brilliant night's sleep.

00:17:58:06 – 00:18:25:07
I'm sorry. So was it as simple as you didn't have a drink last night, and you. And you had a good night's sleep? Yeah. Because of fucking no. Yeah, yeah. Whenever, whenever I. If I don't let me like I'm talking about zero alcohol for like it's actually two days I didn't drink right so I didn't. It. Yeah. And I've got cut it down man I'm just cancer stage.

00:18:25:07 – 00:18:53:07
It started to affect me I yeah I know, I know we've spoken about this a lot but I know quite a lot of people that they will have, you know, with their partner, a bottle or two bottles a night, every single night to unwind and stuff like that. It feels great and it's lovely and it's just great for the TV and it's it's just it is a lovely thing to do is super relaxing after you've had a stressful day, do you get, I suppose you don't get hung over if you're so used to?

00:18:53:07 – 00:19:12:05
Yeah. No. Do I need. Yeah. There'll be times that I have. Not all the time. Most. I'm not drinking enough to be, hung over, to be honest. Yeah. Any bit of alcohol will fuck your night sleep pop. In my opinion. What happens to me, how I react. Whereas my dad, like, we we met up the other night and I stayed over his house.

00:19:12:06 – 00:19:32:08
I drank too much. Right. So, so we we met up, and, he just sleeps. It doesn't affect him at all. We just sleep through the night. But for me, it always wakes me up, and I can't. I just I can tell the difference when I have. Yeah. How to drink. I'm not. Anyway, last night put my head down about all past nine.

00:19:32:10 – 00:19:51:07
But I woke up at seven in the morning. Lovely. But still couldn't spring out of bed to come back around. I was like, yeah, that's a pill myself. Out of bed. Can I fuck this? Are you telling me that you had a lovely night's sleep and when you woke up and you thought, I've got recorded, lads.

00:19:51:07 – 00:20:15:06
Anonymous today? He didn't peel that bed cover back, sprang out of bed. Jump into your trainers and be like fucking. Let's go now. Because I didn't, I didn't I mean, it's for episode 37, 35 or 36, 36. So, no, I didn't. You know what I think though, through the years we have it's changed for me. Yeah. God, I remember the excitement of those things.

00:20:15:06 – 00:20:37:18
So you sent me a list, didn't you? That you're going to go for it? Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. Well, you. Yeah. So what? We'll we'll we'll pick apart, few of these individually, but these are the, this is kind of a list of what people generally jump out of bed for because they're either excited or, you know, they just can't wait to get into it.

00:20:37:18 – 00:21:03:14
So hobbies is a good one. Whether you go to the football, fishing, boxing. And I know that, because of the American matches, boxing and UFC, that we don't get to see it until first thing in the morning over here. Yeah, I don't I just don't watch them like fights that are in America or UFC. I would just won't watch them unless, you know, unless it's gigantic.

00:21:03:16 – 00:21:30:01
Like if it was Canelo, Mayweather or Mayweather. Pacquiao stayed up for that. But typically I just don't watch US space sports because of it. So. So the answer is I don't spring out of bed. I don't even get out of it. Right. Okay. So special occasions, birthdays, anniversaries, special celebrations, travel planning holidays, holiday haul. It, I think holidays, like holidays you do?

00:21:30:03 – 00:21:51:16
Because not only is it the excitement, but you can't turn up to an airport late, though. You just you can't. You can't turn up to your flight half hour late. So I went to Dublin this, about a month ago, and our flight was, I think was half five in the morning and bid to get to Bristol Airport two hours before the flight leaves, just to be safe.

00:21:51:18 – 00:22:10:22
So we're up? Yeah, we're up at 2:00 in the morning and you're not, though. Not going to bed at fucking 8:00 in the night, are you? You're kind of better off ten. So rich. Literally. Just close your eyes. You've closed her eyes and then you're up and you're out. But the fear, like you said, of missing your flight is significant enough that you can't just drift off anyway.

00:22:10:24 – 00:22:18:13
Not. I was fucked the whole day. I was fucked.

00:22:18:15 – 00:22:37:05
So what, you did go to sleep, though, right? And you know, you've got an hour. You know, you you've got a flight. And you eventually drift off and you wake up when you wake up, are you like, did you spring out your bed or was you there, lying there looking at your phone? I'll grab another quick ten minutes.

00:22:37:05 – 00:23:02:08
So exciting. And it it's so exciting to to go on holiday. And as much as I hate flying and go back and listen to another episode that we did about flying a good episode, but, I quite like traveling. I like the process of driving to the airport, and I like getting to the airport, and I'm actually getting much better at flying as well.

00:23:02:10 – 00:23:26:13
Yeah, I would say having done the episode, I, I feel I feel better not not completely. At ease with it, but generally speaking, when I am going to the airport, it's like when I'm going with the family. So the stress element of passports and boarding passes and making sure the bag doesn't exceed any limits and the taxi arrives on time and all that fucking shit.

00:23:26:15 – 00:23:57:19
But it is exciting. And it is one of those things where when my alarm goes off, I'm not hitting snooze, I'm fucking up and I'm straight in that shower, downing coffee, walking around the house like clapping my hands, getting everyone else up. That never, ever happens. Ever. I can't just, I just, I don't know, I think if obviously I got a bed late, I go to bed, I start winding down and going to bed at about 12 at night, and I'm in my bed at half 12 in the morning.

00:23:57:21 – 00:24:32:22
And then I'm up. My alarm goes off at six. Snooze the snooze, snooze about 645, 650. I'm not fucking out. I better fucking get myself going in now. But it's always a massive struggle. Now, to jump back to like, the hobbies element, like football, for example, when there's a cup final day or Euro day. So euros obviously would be flying away, so we would naturally be up to get to the airport.

00:24:32:22 – 00:25:03:24
But like the the day of a cup final or a semifinal or a big college sporting occasion, I know the day is going to be absolutely quality and I know that I need to be on it. And in the fact of that, I need to be as awake and with it as quick as possible, jump in the shower, have something to eat, have like coffee, you know, just get myself going as quickly as I can.

00:25:04:01 – 00:25:30:12
And those days are, well, exciting. I can't wait like I literally yeah, if if we're in like, a cup final, semifinal, whatever. I'm not proper like buzzing for it for the week leading up to it. And then on that day I am up and I'm out and again, if I know I'm a keen fisherman, I don't go as near as much as I'd love to be one of the key to a bike times early in the morning.

00:25:30:12 – 00:25:54:21
So like 6 to 9:00, it's not the same on every like, well, doing bites. But when the fish. Yeah. So when the fish are feeding early in the morning, just as you get fish stands outside outside of house. You can. Yeah. Yeah you can. Yeah. But it's, it's a really good bike time when, when the sun's rising, it's kind of like the fish wake up.

00:25:54:21 – 00:26:15:03
Then the first bit of light that hits the lake, and it's like they can forage around and find stuff and they're a bit more active. So when I even though I find it really fucking scary and a bit daunting, but like, it's five in the morning, the alarm goes off and I'm like, I can't sleep in because if I sleep in, I'm going to miss bite time.

00:26:15:03 – 00:26:31:06
And I'm there for one reason to catch fish and I'm going on my own. So I'm loading the car up and it's pitch black outside. I've having my coffee and I drive to a lake, like, which is in the middle of nowhere. It's a big deep lake. This. There'll be a few people dotted about me, but really see them.

00:26:31:08 – 00:26:57:20
And just being on your own in the middle of a lake, in the middle of nowhere and it's pitch black. You then you sit there thinking anything could happen to me. Yeah, yeah, yeah. No one would ever know I'm okay. Right, Simon? Yeah. It's more about the falling in. I. Know just some random dick coming from out of the bushes at me.

00:26:57:22 – 00:27:19:11
And when I. When I'm all set up, though, and I'm sitting there and I've got my flask of coffee and I've mentioned it before, the mist is just dancing on the lake. And the sun is just piercing through the trees. And you can feel that first bit of warmth, and you're sitting there and you're like, you've got your coffee in your hand watching your float.

00:27:19:13 – 00:27:42:07
And you know, this is why I got up that early. And you've got a routine as well. First routine for coffee at like six in the morning. You just sitting there on your own and you can just hear the birds and the wildlife coming to it, like waking up. It's it's amazing. So it's those things that will only get me out of bed that can, can really kind of wake me up and like, go back to what you said about American sports.

00:27:42:09 – 00:28:01:18
Normally in the UFC, if there is a big fight or a semi big fight, I will. I can't go on social media because as soon as I go on social media in the morning, someone's going to pop up and it'll tell me who's won the fight. So I have to race downstairs and I have to go before anyone else is awake in my house.

00:28:01:20 – 00:28:18:16
Is that when the kids are watching me watch men knock the living shit out of each other? Well, you've got an issue. You kids watching that? I don't really want my kids to watch men elbowing each other in the head. In their head. To be in this woman's house, to be Ricky. What the fuck in each other to.

00:28:18:21 – 00:28:44:05
I'm going to say you don't want. You don't want to see your girls. Don't you want to see what two proper men look like? Well, they see a proper man every single morning. This is the problem. Their idea of what a man is, Ricky, is you. Really? And what UFC and boxing does is. And actually the proper men there you can eventually be with one of them.

00:28:44:07 – 00:29:03:24
Fucking. And, I did not. I would not work. So what is it? What is it? Just a quick little bit of a joke. All jokes aside, what is it? What don't you want to say? Is it just the raw violence? And how do you think they'll interpret that? I don't know, because I don't think they would come away thinking that's an okay thing to do.

00:29:04:01 – 00:29:26:08
No, but, seeing someone that is semi unconscious getting pounded in the face over and over, and I don't even what that until their, until they are unconscious and they've won the fight or the fight is stopped. Yeah. Like mad elbows. Two people in the head and their head split open and they're carrying on fighting. There's blood all over them.

00:29:26:10 – 00:29:50:02
Yeah, I just I would rather that they didn't see that that type of violence really. Because it is pretty like for years I was well against UFC. I was like, this is fucking crazy. That's good. Yeah. Once I got over the fact of being a pansy, you realize it. It's great watching men beat the shit out of each other.

00:29:50:04 – 00:30:19:24
Well, what does I realize that both men are fully trained and they're both there to do exactly the same to each other, and they're ready for. Yeah, and they want to do that. Then it's like, okay, you know what you say? Fucking smash each other to bits. Then what? So would you ever like, when we were talking before this part, before the pod, and you were saying that things are changed for you, is it that you just don't get excited about things anymore?

00:30:20:01 – 00:30:46:00
You're at that age of being a middle aged man, and you're just like, a I've got off for God knows how many flights I've got up for God knows how many football events. Now I'm just a bit nonplused about it now. Yeah. No, I mean, it changes. It's not. I remember not being able to sleep because I was so excited for my birthday previously, and and I was when I was getting ready for a night.

00:30:46:00 – 00:30:59:12
And, you know, most kids are like that. And then you're getting ready for a night out. I remember being like, so probably the peak of drug taking heyday, but mid to late 2000.

00:30:59:14 – 00:31:24:08
Or maybe even early. But we call them tens. Yeah. The I, I, Isaac has super excited. I just had a special ritual where you be kind of like getting ready. I had a couple of drinks put in, ready to start by. Okay. Fire on and I would. I'll be buzzing to go out. But all of it passes him do anything.

00:31:24:08 – 00:31:54:18
Enough is becomes second nature and it becomes a part of the norm. I like I'm really excited about Saturday. I'm really excited about seeing my family and, you know, going to do something that you don't typically do in terms of guys that are boxing. I'm really happy that that's happening. Yeah, but it doesn't go beyond that. And, I think it's more about as you get older, I don't know why it happens, but it does it like when your birthday comes up, imagine how excited you was when you were 18, 17.

00:31:54:20 – 00:32:18:20
You don't feel the same about it now. De I don't feel I don't feel the same way about it as I did. But, and there is a total different excitement. When I was younger, there was always the kind of trepidation of that. I don't know what I'm going to get. Like there is a list of five fucking regime things.

00:32:18:22 – 00:32:36:24
I know one of them was going to be coming to me, and I'm going to open it and I'm going to see those trainers. I'm going to see that fucking, shirt or whatever it is. And Sherman, you. Yeah, I was going to fucking say Ben as well. I mean, I remember I remember the time. Well Benjamin was up there and I yeah.

00:32:37:00 – 00:33:04:02
So those times were exciting. And you'd get up early for your birthday, but mine's kind of changed now. So not my birthday. I wouldn't, but my kids birthdays. It's it is that they're still young enough that when as soon as it's kind of like birthday, 90 6:00 in the morning that they're up and that it's normally quite hard to get them up, but when they step after they're up and they get us up, and that is an exciting occasion, even though I'm fucking half asleep.

00:33:04:04 – 00:33:26:07
But I do enjoy it. And even to the point of that, it is my birthday and I do wake up early because I know I get excited because they're excited, you know? I mean, it's, it rubs off for me. And normally for my birthday now, I book a day off and I sit and watch my favorite film that's TV show is you.

00:33:26:07 – 00:33:47:04
Do you treat yourself in that way? Right? Yeah, yeah, yeah, I love it. Absolutely love it. And the kids, they know that this is my ritual. So they buy all my favorite drinks and snacks ready for school. I eat for myself, which is, which is great. So I do get excited about that. Yeah, that sounds good. I mean, I don't you don't really want anything.

00:33:47:05 – 00:34:10:11
I couldn't give a shit where I got a present or not for Christmas, but that that thoughtfulness of buying your favorite foods and snacks and stuff, knowing that you can need that to be set up for your day. That's a lovely thing. It's a different thing, though. It's a different thing. And yeah, you know, I, I think as you get older when you have a family, it's like you, you do more, it's more important that everyone else is having a good time.

00:34:10:13 – 00:34:32:17
And, and and the thing is, is when as we getting older, as the kids are getting older, they they're starting to care less about it as well, which is really you. I don't want to say this theory. It might not be the case for your kids, but, like, my point. Go. They they get an older, they're less interested in us.

00:34:32:19 – 00:34:51:04
They don't need us other than to feed them. They don't need anything like they. They feed them. We take them to school or college and that's it. That's all they require from us. Occasionally they can. I'm out of money. Can I have a tenner? And it's a weird feeling because it's like you go into Christmas and it's the same.

00:34:51:05 – 00:35:09:04
It's like they're not really bothered about what they're getting. And that's sort of what it is. You get out of the kind of magic of that. It kind. That sounds really depressing. It's just normal. But you just like, yeah, yeah, I want them to be doing backflips out of bed on Christmas morning. I think I spoke to you on them and they're not.

00:35:09:05 – 00:35:33:05
They were on that morning. They've got their one more thing. The I've read that the the by the age of 15 your kids will take everything that they've learned. That's the, that's the maximum amount of influence you're going to have over their family. And they stop listening to you and they start listening to their peers and you lose control of them.

00:35:33:05 – 00:35:54:15
Not that they go off the rails. Yeah, yeah. But then you suddenly become redundant. Yeah. You're not the Oracle. What you once fought. And we were at that as we were growing up. Ricky, you remember like you remember the fight. My dad's not Superman. What? That has his failings. And my mum has her failings. And then you realize I know more than both of them.

00:35:54:17 – 00:36:15:17
Yeah, no more than both him. But you don't. Because even to this day, I call my mum for advice now. So I've goes through that process. Yeah, yeah, yeah for sure. And I remember as well I spoke to you about, it's maybe, maybe Will was birthday and we were up chatting about it and I was like, like, is he excited?

00:36:15:17 – 00:36:40:03
What's he got on your like, he's still in bed. It's like 10:00 at night. Like it doesn't care. So I, I mean, he wants his stuff. Yeah, yeah, but it's not like he's not, like, running downstairs to open his presents. Nuh Because he's he's teenager. He's 15 and 15. Chloe, nearly 17, should be driving soon. Like when she starts driving, she's going to be home at all.

00:36:40:03 – 00:37:13:20
Probably not. Shit. I'm not. So. Christ. I'm. That's the thing is, is that when I was 17 was I wanted to hang around with my parents on my birthday. Nah, let's go and do some fingering. And I didn't do any at 17, but I wanted to. That's what I wanted to. I was game, like for, change, changing it slightly, like with your career and your job, do you get excited about like it?

00:37:13:21 – 00:37:40:19
Like you know what you did, Saturday social. No. On for Sky sports. Large audience. No. You know, all eyes on you and that. You know, if I can ask, they put you up in a hotel and, you know, treat you nice, and I know. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Did you get it, like, did you. No, no, no.

00:37:40:19 – 00:37:57:06
No excitement. Nice work. If you have if you offer me a choice, whether what do you want to do it or not, then the answer's no. I would rather not. Okay. For a number of reasons. The first being.

00:37:57:08 – 00:38:16:20
That, I spent time away from my family for the best part of my week is the bit during the evening where I'm sitting down with my wife. That's my best part of my week, because that part is so great. It's the reason why I've got no interest in going and do care, and drinking myself into oblivion. Now, on a Saturday night, I'd much rather be at home, you know?

00:38:16:22 – 00:38:35:04
And I think most people, by the time they get to 43, they feel that way, right? 100%. Yeah. So that's fine. That's nothing out of the ordinary. But so the idea of going to London, staying in a hotel on my own and then getting up early and going to Sky, that's work. That's stuff I have to do.

00:38:35:06 – 00:38:56:17
Yeah. So it's not. It's not. There's nothing exciting about that. No, I mean, I'll tell you what I did on Friday. Got to the I got to the, I got to the hotel off the drive in, you know, for two hours. And, when it had a poo, obviously, that first thing you do when you get into a hotel room because it's because you're safe and safe.

00:38:56:19 – 00:39:22:06
And then I put on the T20 cricket watch that for two hours and then went to sleep. Oh, good. That sounds horrendous, you know. Yeah, that was my Friday evening, but the. But but my favorite bit Rick I do I do look forward to the ITC. I'll tell you what. There's a bit of a bed spring career for the part of it is they give you they when you buy, when they put you into the hotel, it's Novotel in Brentford, right?

00:39:22:08 – 00:39:42:20
Yeah. You get a breakfast and the breakfast is open at six. And again, whenever before I do any of these shows, I'll never drink like the day before. Yeah. So I had a good night's sleep. The alarm goes, it's like, yes, breakfast time, it's a buffet and there's no one there because I'm up early, there's no one there and I'm just.

00:39:42:20 – 00:40:00:06
Yeah. How many fried eggs do you want for? Yeah. Okay. No good cup, two cups of coffee. And what I'll do is I'll sit down and I'll take my time. I'll take my time. Let's. I'll sit down. I want straight for the food. That's mad. I'll sit down and I'll peruse the news. All right? And I'll. I love them all right.

00:40:00:09 – 00:40:16:00
Yeah. I mean, you know, it's just like, we'll see what's going on, and then I'll have, like, a cup of coffee and maybe a bowl of cereal. Take my toilet. Take my time. Yeah. And then I'll get up and then I'll have a cup breakfast, maybe an orange juice as well. And I've got enough time. So I've left myself.

00:40:16:00 – 00:40:31:13
I've sprung out bread of, left myself a couple of hours. I'll take as much time as I like. And it's this brand new, this hotel, the Novotel. It's been there about two years, so it's really kind of like plush. And I see all the businessmen getting ready. And then in the people on their holidays have come to London to visit.

00:40:31:15 – 00:41:00:09
And I'm sitting there amongst it all gone. This is all right. Yeah. That's one of the, one of the ones on here that I've got on the list is, big breakfast. Like getting up. It's my daughter's 13th birthday on Sunday. And normally, because when we were like, my partner's family, they are massive on birthdays. It's the one day of the year where they will make a fuss.

00:41:00:09 – 00:41:20:07
And all the aunties and uncles and cousins and all that, they will buy presents for that person. They will visit that person. They all get a card and it's a real big, tradition that they which is quite nice because it still makes me feel like it's my birthday when people are buying me lots of, you know, cards and gifts and wishing me and stuff like that.

00:41:20:09 – 00:41:46:18
But, we got to a stage where we would literally going out for birthday dinners every 2 or 3 weeks. It's fucking expensive. So then what we found out is if you go to go out for a big breakfast in the morning, it's a lot cheaper because everyone's got kids where they go in for free. There's a little, restaurant up in Milton, in Milton Keynes, in the city.

00:41:46:20 – 00:42:06:05
I can't remember what it's called bar in blocks or something like that, but but, so we're all going there, and it's exactly like you said. I'm going to get there. I think we're booked in at half 8 or 845 Sunday morning, so. Oh yeah, I'll be up early. I have to get up early. So this is my daughter's daughter's birthday and the breakfast.

00:42:06:05 – 00:42:31:14
So I'll be that, I'll be springing up out of bed, getting in that shower, getting myself ready. And it's one of those breakfast where you've got your coat and then your croissants. Yeah. Pan chuckles and all that shit. I go straight for the fry up, straight for double fried egg without getting a double double fried egg. Double hash brown may even go fresh brand, depending on how bad I'm feeling.

00:42:31:14 – 00:42:51:01
And, and all of that. And then I'll go, you know, apple juice, and I'll have a little sit down and maybe cup a slice of toast in that. But yeah, those things get me up and out in the morning like, like like the celebrate the celebratory type of things, like for breakfast and stuff. I'm definitely up top.

00:42:51:01 – 00:43:08:17
What are you going to do? What are you going to do? You got to be there off eight on Sunday, eight for you. 845 and the box in the box in I mean, it's scheduled to come on at ten. It won't come on at ten. You might be more like 11. Yeah. And then you will be all the way back home.

00:43:08:19 – 00:43:29:02
I haven't till about this, but then you might need to think about it. You need to think about it, Ricky. Really? Because it's right. It's on the doorsteps. Come in. Yeah, I know I will. I'm like. Trying to that's, you know, that's that is my options. So I'll, I'll leave to make sure I get that last train, but,

00:43:29:04 – 00:43:56:07
What what if what if, if you kind of. You're very drunk and then someone. Not me, not me, but someone goes. That's how I say. I can't say Ricky Hatton's at the door. I you can't leave me. And he's like, he she's a shadow boxing. And he's like. And he makes those horrible noises when he punches this. His eyes, he's just staring that next to the door, I don't know, I, I can't leave, he's still there.

00:43:56:07 – 00:44:24:08
He's been there for four hours. Shadow boxing. Fuck that. What about, like, I know what the answer is going to be to this, but I thought I just ask it anyway for tech gadgets, you know, like, I, I find, do the announcements that are the, the kind of, you know, conferences and. No, no, no, no, I didn't I knew that I couldn't give a shit at all.

00:44:24:08 – 00:44:42:21
In fact, I had my I was gutted that my three year old phone broke this week. So I'll just. Whoa, fuck. I have to be broke. Well, I dropped it in Amsterdam in May and I've just been in the crack. The screen cracked. It was working fine. It's just been. It was sort of shattered, but I could use my phone.

00:44:42:23 – 00:44:57:21
Yeah, yeah. And I was like, I don't want to get any phone. Let me, let me draw this out for as long as possible. It wasn't okay. Yeah, I could do it, I think really I don't care about like, the money or a new contract. I didn't care, I just didn't want to deal with it. This works fine.

00:44:57:21 – 00:45:17:19
And, I woke up one morning and half the screen was gone. Let's see what I think it is. It? So I got a brand new S20 for whatever that means, but, yeah, couldn't give a shit. I went, I went the whole process done and dusted. There's no difference between one phone or the other. There is none unless you're desperate to look for it.

00:45:17:21 – 00:45:38:11
But for everybody, me and you, there is no difference if you're fascinated with technology and whatnot, you'll know that the battery life is probably last about 30 minutes longer than the one that I had previously. I couldn't even solitary fucker put it in charge every night. It's not a problem. No, no, no, what that stuff's about really isn't about being interested in the new phone.

00:45:38:11 – 00:46:15:18
That's been about massive part of your hobby, right? Technology can be a hobby, right? Can it? Yeah, but no, nothing like that. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing really. So to draw this to an end, a couple of people have sent in some of their. What what makes it. Well, actually there's literally a couple of it. So women, if they are on a, on a promise for a bank up or something like that, they would get up at 10:00 to go around someone's house, like literally like, I don't know why or whatnot.

00:46:15:18 – 00:46:35:13
I didn't quite understand it. I mean, I obviously do understand it, but if you're getting a text at 6:00 in the morning, sign you up, come round. So someone's been out all night? Probably a little bit, you know, under the influence? Yeah. Okay. Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then maybe that's what they'll say. I can't say I've ever had received one of those text messages.

00:46:35:13 – 00:47:01:24
To be fair, I don't know, not not like, an early morning, but they'll spring out a bed to go. But surely you'll have to get, like, teeth brushed and all that stuff, but, yeah, yeah, yeah, I just, I don't know, I know as I've got older, the sound of that sounds horrendous to me. I don't know if it is about getting older, but like if I'm at 6:00 and I'm fast asleep and I'll get a typing end up, I'm not going.

00:47:02:01 – 00:47:23:00
All right. Brilliant. I have to get up again, have sex. Now that's kind of what my. Yeah, I'm like, if if I was, I thought falling asleep on the sofa and I felt my phone vibrate at like four in the morning, checking it out from the missus, saying, you going to come up and you're usually a B, why aren't you home?

00:47:23:00 – 00:47:44:19
Where are you? Yeah. For him, you're going to come up and sort me out or what? I'd be sprinting up those stairs. You would? Yeah. I wouldn't even finish the end of the sentence. And I'd just be, just be there because I'm a little pig. Yeah. You are. And then someone has said, yeah, I'll bring it up bed every Monday morning, sir.

00:47:44:19 – 00:48:08:12
Listen to lads. Anonymous. Thank you very much. That's. I mean, I know that it was I'm guessing that was that probably it wasn't actually, it's kind of thing you would see with message. Yeah. Yeah, yeah I do you know what I am, I dunno, it could have been, it could have been, dilemmas. This one is called sexting never hurt anyone.

00:48:08:12 – 00:48:36:07
And something only you know is Royal Marine hard core. So those are the dilemmas and something. And you know, the topic for next week is the Titan. Now the Titan is the submersible that went into the sea to find the Titanic. And it had 5 or 6 people on board and its boat because everything had been fed all the information we fed bullshit.

00:48:36:07 – 00:48:55:22
Because I was under under the impression that it was like like a tiny bit of crushed up metal at the pressure of the, the ocean, just. And they all got obliterated straight away. Turns out. Yeah, something else completely. Well, I mean, that's what I thought as well. Like the stuff that I was reading, I don't want to get too far down the rabbit hole unless this is that.

00:48:55:22 – 00:49:20:04
They would have been like the the word vaporized. Vaporized. They were vaporized within seconds. Now, this topic hasn't been submitted by any of the lads. It was submitted by me because I'm obsessed with this story. And I remember as the news broke that there was a fucking submersible falling through the sea like idiots. I'm not going to go into that.

00:49:20:04 – 00:49:44:17
We're going to start if you have any. It was a great week. It's not for the people in it and their families. I know it was. It was, a historic moment because I don't thing I've ever felt anything like. It was a bit like 911. Yes. Yes, exactly. This is weird. It is like it was like when the world stood still because something was happening.

00:49:44:19 – 00:50:09:19
So if you have any conspiracy stories connected in any way to the kind of expedition that happened or anything, any stories you heard, what have you heard, or if you are a super adventurer, okay, well, you've done something kind of similar. It doesn't have to be a submersible, but you've been to, like a the clifftop, like a zip.

00:50:09:19 – 00:50:33:08
Like on a race. Like on a zip line in Vietnam. Yeah. You're trusting the people there with your life, and you get that they spongey jumps in New Zealand. Yes. You know, they, they fucking made one. Yeah. I think you've got like that. Send it in to lads anon pod at gmail.com. And we were read at your stories.

00:50:33:14 – 00:51:09:10
Now we are going to go into dilemmas. Them night wrong single so, just you got an issue for a tissue? You're a bit sad because that will teach you a can in your soul, alone in your flat. Please talk to Vicky a flat bed. Let that stress off your chest. Well, friend, you deserve to be like you're safe to get nice and warm between breaking and.

00:51:09:12 – 00:51:36:18
Sexting never hurt anyone. Love your podcast and listen to it with my boyfriend every week, so this dilemma won't be a surprise to him. We've been together for almost eight years now and overall have a great relationship. I've always known that he's into buxom women. Me being one myself, and don't mind that he follows and likes busty models on Instagram.

00:51:36:20 – 00:52:02:21
However, he recently admitted to me that one woman DM'd him and was pretty flirtatious. He showed me the messages and he immediately told her that he is in a relationship. At first I was jealous, but then I found myself being turned on that this is that this hot younger woman was into my man as she made comments about how lucky his girlfriend must feel.

00:52:02:23 – 00:52:23:23
We talked about it and he said he would only be comfortable with chatting, flirting, and sexting if it was okay with if I was okay with it. I didn't know what to say, but that night we had the most unspeakable hot sex we have ever had. It was like when we first met each other for the first time all over again.

00:52:24:00 – 00:52:52:03
We have always had a beautiful sex life and I want it to stay that way. Neither one of us want an open relationship, but I wonder if I should encourage him to continue with messaging her if it means things were still stay hot between us for as long as possible? Or is this inviting trouble into my relationship? For the record, the boundaries would be just text and sharing, one time images, not meeting or anything like that.

00:52:52:05 – 00:53:19:18
All my female friends are very conservative and say no as this will surely end my really hate my relationship. What are your thoughts lads? I think they're probably right. The, the friends are you generally you will end up with, issues down the line. I don't know if you can control it. It may be that your boyfriend is completely committed to you, and he probably is, but then he might read a particular message and he's like, oh, wow.

00:53:19:20 – 00:53:48:19
And then he's saying, I'd better not tell her about that. Or there may be conversation you're opening. It's not you're opening yourself up to issues. I think that would be my advice. Yeah. The, the I mean, again, the chatting is, is fine. A playful flirt in whatever. It's, you know, it's down to but sexting I, I for me that's, that's a step too far.

00:53:48:21 – 00:54:18:11
And then the, you know the, the one time images where they disappear so she could send anything and he could send anything after they've opened it. You can't retrieve that message again. And you have no idea what they're sending to each other. And the further that that relationship, goes down the line, and the stronger that it gets into whatever they're talking and sending to each other, I just think it's just you're in a hiding to nothing and also a mate.

00:54:18:11 – 00:54:38:13
You are. You got to be. You got to be aware of the feelings of the other person as well. You might be led down this garden path when they're just being used. So I appreciate it. I just don't think there's a positive outcome out from this. But what about it? You know, so you're saying, yeah, it's very hot, hot steamy sex session.

00:54:38:15 – 00:55:01:15
Yeah. But so you could have an affair with someone and have a hot, steamy sex session. But it doesn't mean you should know. That's right. Let's get bra. Yeah. I think, both Flav and I are in agreement with that one, and I don't think you should allow. Is that the word allowing him? I don't think she carries it.

00:55:01:17 – 00:55:21:21
Yeah. That's it. I don't think you should encourage it. Is what I, is what I'm saying. So we're going to go into something only you know now. Why something, you know.

00:55:21:23 – 00:55:55:12
Royal marine hard core. Former serving former serving Royal Marine. I finished jungle trading in 2006 and ended up in a well known brass house, well strip club cum nightclub. I had a threesome with one of my mates with a brass. I was going out her from behind and he asked me to switch places. We switched places, switch switched slightly, switch switched from switch places.

00:55:55:14 – 00:56:27:08
And she's now chowing down on my member hyena on sausages corpse. I say to her, get round my baffins bridge, implying my gooch. I've never heard that term. Bevin's bridge back. She puts my ankles to my ears like a circus contortionist that dons a condom on her middle finger and ring finger and starts to finger bang my asshole like I'm like I'm hiding treasure inside there.

00:56:27:10 – 00:56:49:15
Jesus, my mate starts retching at the sight of me and ask me to leave. I pick up my clothes on. He's he's mates. Ask him to leave because he was getting fingered by. No, she was finger banging. He's also. Yeah. So. And his mate asked him to leave. Yeah. Yeah. Didn't I kiss you? Leave you nothing to do this.

00:56:49:17 – 00:57:17:18
Well, might be able. Might be his, bro. See you tonight. Well, I mean, it's says that's a condom on a. Picked up my clothes and, I picked my clothes up and walked to the door. I looked back at his pale ass going hell for leather like a Jack Russell in heat. So I open and closed the door, but quietly walked back in and finished myself off over his feet for a laugh.

00:57:17:20 – 00:57:46:05
I covered his feet in the thickest man's magma. It was basically a fully formed child. I ran away giggling. He never once brought this up, and that's something only I know that is. Feet came on his face. It's cream. It's left, right, left hand, listless. So he's had his legs pinned behind his head. Right? Yeah. Fingered by the that he was with.

00:57:46:07 – 00:58:03:06
Yeah. He's been told by his mate who's disgusted at seeing that. Yeah. I don't like that. Get out of here because I want to finish or I want to have my guy. Yeah. You walk out and something goes, I. You know what? I'm gonna go back on on the company's feet. How?

00:58:03:08 – 00:58:33:24
I was that. Well, it's it's, x x Royal Marine. Like these lads are wired different in that these days. I've heard a lot of army stories. Marine stories that where lads have done the most, speakable heinous types of fucking gags on each other, which is absolutely gross. And I. I'm up for a laugh, you know, I'm bloody up.

00:58:34:01 – 00:58:59:18
But some of this stuff is just way too far. They're a fucking different breed. So, thank you for sending that in. That was, that was me. Yeah. So next week we're going to be talking about the submersible, the Titan. So if you've got any adventurous, like, mad experiences that you've had or you connected to the story or know any conspiracy stories, send it in to lads.

00:58:59:18 – 00:59:23:00

00:59:23:02 – 00:59:48:23
Game night, hazy light, Band of Brothers playing tunes High is quite midnight. Waves surfing through till daylight breaks. Rhythm hit us different ways. Love of music that we prayed with our tongues in cheek. Band is that we like to speak. And yeah, times change. But no matter what the bond remains. Brothers.
