Gareth Flavell: Do you not think the crazy coincidence of you, Jack, sending me on Instagram that, what would you call it?

00:00:18.97
Gareth Flavell: ah i mean, it's not a mythical story. It's real life of a shark being tracked. A nine-foot great white, might I add. Not a small shark.

00:00:33.75
Gareth Flavell: and they're seeing the tracking that plummets to great depths and then the tag the temperature rises in it where you can assume that where the temperature has risen so much and been consistent that it's gone into the stomach of something else and you sent me that And I was like, this is fucking amazing.

00:01:01.79
Gareth Flavell: I've not heard this story. I put it in the running order for lads last week. Was it last week? And when Flav and I started speaking, it was one of the first things he wanted to talk about.

00:01:14.38
Gareth Flavell: And I assumed you had sent it to Flav, but it just popped up in, even saw it on Reddit. It wasn't even Instagram. What's that about?

00:01:22.90
Jack: you mugged me off didn't you how i heard that i heard that bit um you did you were saying i'd been tittle towel i'd been going around telling all and sundry all and sundry about my shark stories i'd

00:01:25.76
Gareth Flavell: Who mugged you off?

00:01:36.86
Jack: I'd serve to let's not thinking, you know, they like sharks and all that, don't they?

00:01:37.11
Gareth Flavell: Hmm.

00:01:41.55
Jack: No, yeah I mean, it's ah number one, it's a very interesting story. And I think like you, Rick, I'm one of those people that i am a naturally I am a skeptic and I like to, you know, ah like sort of break down myths and all that type not even myths, like paranormal stuff and everything and see what I think about it.

00:02:00.60
Jack: However, there's that bit of me that's always quite open to thinking maybe it's a megalodon. maybe that night you know i mean Maybe they don't know.

00:02:05.91
Gareth Flavell: yeah

00:02:07.62
Jack: So when Flav's just like, no, it's another great one. It's a bigger one. I'm like, well, that shuts that one down, doesn't it?

00:02:14.49
Gareth Flavell: Well, does it though?

00:02:14.58
Jack: But, well, well, but the story, you know, the fact that he had seen it that same Reddit thread is kind of interesting.

00:02:15.29
Gareth Flavell: But we're here. It could be.

00:02:24.76
Jack: I was wondering, my like my immediate thought was, because you two chat a lot, right?

00:02:30.04
Gareth Flavell: o

00:02:31.74
Jack: Does the algorithm know that? Like, does the algorithm have access to the fact that you know one another? So you're almost like pollinating one another's algorithms with stuff that you've seen?

00:02:40.86
Gareth Flavell: yes

00:02:42.30
Jack: I don't know.

00:02:42.58
Gareth Flavell: ah I think so. i think it's the fact that we regularly send reels or whatever it is to each other.

00:02:53.43
Gareth Flavell: And it knows that we're connected in some weird, well, the algorithm intertwined in in one another. And like you're saying, kind of pollinating each other's timeline. And, you know, we're into the same thing. So it's like, let's serve these dudes the same thing.

00:03:09.75
Gareth Flavell: Then they'll start a conversation or keep sending stuff on Instagram to each other. Let's keep them on Instagram by sending them shark stuff. But do you ever get it? Like if you're sitting at home and you're chatting with a wife about a new coffee machine,

00:03:28.79
Gareth Flavell: like none of you, you've done the search and you've looked at it, then your wife gets a targeted ad of a coffee machine.

00:03:31.67
Jack: Well, this

00:03:38.34
Gareth Flavell: Are you one of those people that like, they they're listening in, it can hear what we're saying? Or are you just, it's the algo doing its thing?

00:03:51.64
Jack: this is the thing, because I've heard sort of various different theories behind this type of thing. And I mean, people will say that like unequivocally, they cannot, they're not allowed to listen in. They can't listen in. So the algorithm isn't serving you stuff because it's listened to you.

00:04:08.98
Jack: Like you say, there are literally there are literally times when Charlotte and I have been sat there talking about something even just random. Like, I think quite recently were talking about maybe wanting to go on like a holiday to like Lake Bled.

00:04:20.71
Jack: We wanted to see Lake Bled in Slovenia.

00:04:22.14
Gareth Flavell: Oh yeah yeah yeah yeah.

00:04:24.02
Jack: And open up your Instagram moments later, there's adverts for Lake Bled, travel to Slovenia all over it.

00:04:30.04
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:04:30.18
Jack: And you're like, that they did the bastards are listening in. They are.

00:04:33.66
Gareth Flavell: They are!

00:04:34.06
Jack: They are. They're there with glass against the wall listening. But i think it's I think it's Adam Curtis who said that it might be even more insidious than that, Rick. That it is literally, you know, like you see Derren Brown subliminally like plant a thought in somebody's head.

00:04:47.99
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:04:51.77
Gareth Flavell: Yeah, yeah,

00:04:52.79
Jack: that it might be that the algorithm knows you that well, that it is literally like flip that switch in your head somehow subconsciously that you are thinking about going to this place at a certain time when your next holiday is coming up.

00:05:06.94
Jack: And so it knows when to start dropping your adverts. It knows. It's like this is our this is our roadmap of brainwashing this person into buying that coffee machine, going on that holiday.

00:05:13.79
Gareth Flavell: yeah.

00:05:18.77
Jack: And then this is just the final little push that they need. Maybe maybe it's that sophisticated. that's the That's the scarier reality for me.

00:05:25.56
Gareth Flavell: Yeah, that is scary. That is really scary. So you're saying like around March, April, when i am but I'm kind of come out of hibernation and I'm looking to go to Spain, as I always do, then I just keep seeing adverts of Spain and tourist traps to visit.

00:05:46.78
Jack: baby oil and all that.

00:05:47.82
Gareth Flavell: ya Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:05:49.00
Jack: No, you're sunning. What is it? You you cook yourself, don't you?

00:05:51.54
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:05:51.70
Jack: you are

00:05:51.98
Gareth Flavell: ah How do you know that?

00:05:52.44
Jack: Yeah. I've heard you talking about it.

00:05:54.65
Gareth Flavell: ah

00:05:56.86
Jack: Gallons are the shit you're ordering about all your holidays, aren't you?

00:05:57.43
Gareth Flavell: ah Yeah, I use that.

00:06:00.01
Jack: Yeah.

00:06:00.23
Gareth Flavell: um It's like, I think, it's is it called tanning oil? But, you know, it's like in that brown kind of clear bottle, that dark brown. And it is like cooking oil that you're just dousing yourself in.

00:06:12.73
Gareth Flavell: And then I just lay there like some fucking anaconda that's eaten a pig, just laying on a sun lounger, slivering about.

00:06:20.41
Jack: little little fluorescent speedo, like of like fluorescent yellow speedo, like sexy beast.

00:06:23.35
Gareth Flavell: Yeah. yeah

00:06:27.35
Gareth Flavell: if

00:06:28.41
Jack: you know what

00:06:29.69
Gareth Flavell: oh mate i see clips of sexy beast all the time and i'm just like that film if anyone if you're listening to this right and you've never seen the film sexy beast i implore you to go and watch it it is fucking great film absolutely love it but he yeah

00:06:46.94
Jack: Ben Kingsley. Ben Kingsley called him a fat cunt over time, didn't

00:06:51.06
Gareth Flavell: And it's so unnecessary as well.

00:06:55.00
Jack: he? Yeah. yeah

00:06:55.90
Gareth Flavell: ah Purely to provoke something from it. it's fucking brilliant. e yeah it's ah It's a great performance from him in that.

00:07:02.12
Jack: It's a fucking quality film. now I haven't watched it in years, actually.

00:07:04.57
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:07:04.80
Jack: It's one of those. It's one of those that like when I see when I see British films that are set in like the continent, um'm in my head, I'm instantly like, I want to go on holiday.

00:07:11.58
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:07:14.26
Jack: day

00:07:14.81
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:07:14.87
Jack: like I want that. I want a bit of that. i want a bit of that. That sort of that the the rough British stylings of hearing like our voice, our accent, the way in which we talk, the things we go after.

00:07:26.04
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:07:26.38
Jack: offset with like some beautiful sort mediterranean town kind free beers free beers but you know that fit that feeling first day of holiday sat in some old town square somewhere t-shirt weather you're there three frosty crisp glasses of the local piss you know what mean like give it to me nice crispy pills now please i want to go on holiday day now

00:07:30.17
Gareth Flavell: oh he Yeah. Yeah.

00:07:39.06
Gareth Flavell: yeah

00:07:44.09
Gareth Flavell: ah yeah

00:07:48.22
Gareth Flavell: oh Actually, saying that, so this is, ah you know, a little peep into the sausage factory behind the curtain that this pod, while you're listening to this, is a pre-recorded one.

00:08:05.11
Gareth Flavell: And as you're listening to this, and as I said about me being this oiled up anaconda on a deck chair, that is exactly what I'm going to be doing So I'm out in Spain at the moment. So this is the, you know, Ricky passed.

00:08:23.16
Gareth Flavell: And this will be ah Friday, the 7th of August, that this will be published to patrons, by the way. You normies will get it later. Patreon.com slash ladsononpod. If you, you know, if you want to watch this pod, listen, ad free, discord, all of that jazz.

00:08:43.29
Gareth Flavell: But yeah, so I, you know, you talking about that frosted beer, i will be, i don't think I'll be having a frosted beer. i will be poolside with a mojito.

00:08:59.77
Jack: I like a Mahito.

00:08:59.83
Gareth Flavell: And I will just be, oh God, I can't wait. And it's in Spain, the measures. Just fucking keep pouring it, boy.

00:09:08.35
Jack: Free pour, innit?

00:09:08.50
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:09:09.19
Jack: Free pour, that's it.

00:09:09.85
Gareth Flavell: yeah

00:09:10.06
Jack: None of this little, none of this little, we've got to get a little metal thing out and fill it up and make bollocks.

00:09:13.91
Gareth Flavell: no

00:09:15.95
Jack: Like, yeah.

00:09:16.22
Gareth Flavell: fuck off fuck off fuck right off

00:09:19.29
Jack: um just Just quickly, Rick, on the pre-recorded thing, have you thought about what happens if Donald Trump gets assassinated or something?

00:09:28.50
Gareth Flavell: what as in how am I gonna record a pod around that or something

00:09:32.56
Jack: Well, yeah, do know I mean? What's going on there?

00:09:34.07
Gareth Flavell: Well, this is the first time in a few years where I am planning to go on holiday and not take a mic, mic lead, anything.

00:09:47.99
Gareth Flavell: I want 10 days of tools down, podcast going out i will still be on social media and i'll be taking my laptop and stuff like that but in terms of recording i'm just gonna put a line in the sand literally and be like this is family time and if trump or putin or whoever

00:10:18.33
Gareth Flavell: you know, do you know what? if If he is assassinated, that would be a good part of it. Thinking about it, so something that's really trend a trending topic. I'm like, oh God, I need to record.

00:10:32.90
Jack: I don't want to ruin it. No, don't take your mic. Don't do it.

00:10:35.03
Gareth Flavell: No.

00:10:35.40
Jack: Just, you know what mean?

00:10:35.55
Gareth Flavell: Okay. Okay.

00:10:36.50
Jack: You

00:10:37.02
Gareth Flavell: Okay. I'll focus, fully focus on the holiday season.

00:10:40.28
Jack: can get Flav and Alex in Bristol to do it or something.

00:10:43.18
Gareth Flavell: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm just going to ignore it. Because I know that when you've gone on… I've actually heard you on a pod whilst you've been away and heard seagulls in the background.

00:10:59.06
Gareth Flavell: Like, ge where wherever you go, are you or you we still in that mindset of, I need to take stuff? Yeah.

00:11:05.98
Jack: Well, because it's Tottenham, isn't it? It's football. It's always, always on the go. So, yeah, I i i won't take, I usually won't take the full mic setup and stuff.

00:11:10.87
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:11:17.55
Jack: Yeah. Look, if i if I can go somewhere with the car, I will take the mic and all that type of stuff because it's better quality, isn't it? But the wonders of modern technology means that, you know, voice notes on…

00:11:25.08
Gareth Flavell: Yes.

00:11:30.10
Jack: Do you know what Rick writes?

00:11:32.50
Gareth Flavell: Yeah, Colin.

00:11:32.57
Jack: You spend 200, 300 quid on like a nice microphone and all that type of thing.

00:11:32.97
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:11:37.80
Jack: And then sometimes I record ah i record a voice note on my on my mobile.

00:11:37.98
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:11:42.49
Gareth Flavell: yeah

00:11:42.68
Jack: And I'm like, sounds the fucking same. Sounds just as good.

00:11:46.90
Gareth Flavell: ah

00:11:47.42
Jack: you know what I mean? Like, why am I doing this? Why am I acting like some simp paying into Shaw or whoever it is? You know, it's…

00:11:54.55
Gareth Flavell: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think there is this kind of, um especially, i mean, this is like talking about podcasts or social media, whatever, but there is this thing that it needs to be of the best quality, best, you know, 4K footage edited to within a life in it life is itself and graphics and all that lot.

00:12:18.62
Gareth Flavell: But the end of the day, if I buy into a a content creator, And I'm listening to their pod and it's a bit crackly or the audio is a bit echoey because they're on holiday. ah It doesn't really matter. I couldn't give a shit.

00:12:31.56
Gareth Flavell: I'm there for kind of them. Do you know what mean? I'm there to listen to what they've got to say.

00:12:33.85
Jack: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:12:37.75
Gareth Flavell: Unless it's like unbearable and something is, I don't know, there's diggers in the background or something like that. And you can't, you know, it's ineligible like listening to them.

00:12:49.24
Gareth Flavell: But, yeah, apart from that, I don't really believe in this hype of the world telling you you need the world's best tech and stuff like that. At the end of the day, if it's something that I want to listen to or something that I want to watch and it isn't, you know, up to spec, I couldn't give a shit really.

00:13:08.70
Gareth Flavell: Just as long as, I'll watch football matches on my fucking mobile phone, like a tiny, tiny little screen just to see what's going on or, or a YouTube watch YouTube for half hour on my phone. You what mean? It doesn't need to be,

00:13:24.76
Gareth Flavell: this set for TV or whatever. But anyway, that's just…

00:13:29.42
Jack: See old Christopher Nolan thing, innit? It's him saying people shouldn't watch films on their phone and everyone responded by saying, yeah, watched Inception on my phone, mate. What are you going to do about it?

00:13:43.00
Jack: Filmed it all on IMAX, did you, mate? Like, maximalised it for, like, the best screen available. Cool. Watched it on a calculator, you know.

00:13:49.24
Gareth Flavell: ah

00:13:49.99
Jack: That's just it. That's just it.

00:13:54.68
Gareth Flavell: Eat that, Nolan.

00:14:22.78
Gareth Flavell: Hello and welcome to Lads Anonymous. This is episode 161. I'm Ricky, he's Jack. Two excellent mates talking about one big topic every week. We'll solve your anonymous dilemmas, reveal your deepest confessions in something only you know, and probably overshare a few stories of our own.

00:14:43.51
Gareth Flavell: So grab a brew, settle in, and welcome to Lads Anonymous. What you wouldn't know is that intro… I've been doing the same intro for a few years now and Flav gets sick and tired of it. So he said, the next time you, every time you do that same intro, I'm just going to speak over it.

00:15:01.91
Gareth Flavell: I said, okay. He said, what i want you to do is I want you to go into chat GPT, put it in there and get it to rewrite it. And forever we'll be using that. So I did that for,

00:15:12.89
Gareth Flavell: I think it's, oh God, I'm getting mixed up with pods now. must be It must be two weeks ago now. Shit, it's weird doing pods in advance. But anyway, so I did that.

00:15:25.21
Gareth Flavell: ah stumbled over some words there. It still sounds exactly the same as the other one. So I think I'm going to have to tart it up a bit more. going have to change it. But anyway…

00:15:35.16
Jack: ah I mean, I am, know you know, I'm not going brown nose too much, right but I'm a regular listener. So, i you know, I was i was attuned to the to the subtle differences there and I did quite like it.

00:15:45.53
Gareth Flavell: Oh.

00:15:46.12
Jack: So, you know, I know where you're coming from. But yeah, Flav wants a wholesale change on that. If he's getting mardy about it, then I think, yeah, it's probably, yeah, agree.

00:15:54.84
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:15:57.36
Jack: go Trust your gut. Yeah, probably needs changing a bit more.

00:15:59.19
Gareth Flavell: Right, okay. Right, yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, we've been doing the same one, and, and like, he's always of the mind of, who cares, just fucking just go into the pod.

00:16:09.62
Gareth Flavell: But I like to, you know, if there's a new listener, it tells you what what what this pod's about. You know, I just, I like to set my stool out. I'm a bit funny like that, but, you know, never mind, okay?

00:16:21.20
Jack: you've got your way of doing things that he's got his i'm not i'm not here to i'm not here to you know do you mean cause problems or anything but still you know wanker

00:16:23.16
Gareth Flavell: Yeah!

00:16:26.71
Gareth Flavell: Yeah! Exactly. Right, a bit housekeeping before ah we get going. The… feature that we have where you send in your voice notes called don't listen if you want to send that in well basically this feature is you send one minute voice note we have no idea what it is it's not listened to pre-podcast we just play it Hopefully you have been kind and not been silly as in racist, homophobia, any of that stuff. But anything, if you want to feature on this podcast, send it in label it, don't listen. We won't listen and we'll play it on the podcast for you. If you want to be part of the pod, that's what you've got to do. Send it in to ladsanonpod at gmail.com.

00:18:18.84
Gareth Flavell: No, I'll save that for a minute. Let's get into this. Do you know what we're talking about today?

00:18:25.00
Jack: I do. It's the great outdoors. Did you, what I mean, am i am I overstepping Rick?

00:18:28.58
Gareth Flavell: is The Great Outdoors.

00:18:30.29
Jack: I don't like, I don't, um but was I supposed to fill in there? you go

00:18:33.47
Gareth Flavell: i've ah i'm always I always dream of I have ah have a dream. ah And when I say, do you know what we're talking about? It's for Flav to say what the subject is.

00:18:45.50
Gareth Flavell: He never does. So, yeah um' you know, you've remembered. I'm pleased. So thank you

00:18:53.15
Jack: That's all right. I'm glad to be a service.

00:18:54.27
Gareth Flavell: That's good.

00:18:58.38
Gareth Flavell: Yeah, The Great Outdoors. Now, um because this is a pod that is… I don't how many I'm going to have to say this, but pre-recorded. I've not put questions out or anything like that, so I'm not going be able to read out your stories.

00:19:11.45
Gareth Flavell: But we still want to hear your feedback and your stories on this, so please send them across. As kids, we…

00:19:23.58
Gareth Flavell: we couldn't, you like, as a child, you couldn't keep me being indoors. I was always out on my bike, playing football, getting up to mischief, more than likely burning stuff somewhere.

00:19:39.90
Gareth Flavell: Now, yeah yeah, I was a little shit.

00:19:40.38
Jack: You were naughty, weren't you? You were naughty. yeah

00:19:43.77
Gareth Flavell: i what You know, hands up. my I have explained this before, but I will do again. The street that I grew up on, when I was a kid, was filled with council houses and people that are on shared ownership houses. Now, that was predominantly single mothers raising children.

00:20:11.83
Gareth Flavell: So there was a lot of mothers that would go out to work but they wouldn't be able to look after their children, young children. So there would always be a mum that was at home from one of my mates, and we would rove around in packs, like a wild pack of dogs.

00:20:31.29
Gareth Flavell: And we would go out, play football, go to a local pond, do whatever. Then we'd all pile back to that person's house, go back for orange juice, packet of crisps, whatever, and then we'd would go out again. That's just how life was back then.

00:20:47.94
Gareth Flavell: Uh, there was no one keeping a real eye on us. So we were very mischievous and yes, I was, um a naughty boy, shall we say, but in my kind of adult life, when it gets to, I mean, like I spend a lot of time at home.

00:21:09.30
Gareth Flavell: i mean, I'm recording in my kitchen a hell of a lot. And I used to, like for years, this is like COVID time. i used to go out for a walk an hour a day all the time. And I've really fallen off of that. And it's such bad kind of for me, like wellness, just going out there, getting a bit of sun on my skin, ah fresh air in my lungs, all of that stuff.

00:21:34.26
Gareth Flavell: But I think generally speaking, when a lot of people… adults specifically, when they finish their day, their tendency is more to stay at home, to not go out, to stick Netflix on, to watch Amazon Prime. so I don't know. like well Where are you at with it? like In your life, you've got a young child and stuff, like getting out and stuff like that. I know it's a fucking complete and utter…

00:22:08.43
Gareth Flavell: arse ache to do so i guess what I'm asking is ah are you more are you mut now because you've got a young child are you a home bird or do you still like to to go out and explore

00:22:23.64
Jack: Yeah, I mean, look, I'm very much, I'm an outdoorsy person. I like, I love being outdoors. I love it. I love going for like a walk in the woods or something like that. um We moved house a year and a bit ago.

00:22:37.98
Jack: And I found it, I've genuinely found it really hard to settle into our new place because like, all my walks. Do you know what mean? In my head, I had like all these different walks that I could have.

00:22:48.78
Jack: I knew there were different lengths. I knew it was a different type of walk, all this type of thing. That all got sort of ripped up and I've had to sort of discover new ones.

00:22:57.59
Gareth Flavell: Right, okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. yeah yeah yeah

00:23:00.65
Jack: And being real, don't like them as much. I don't like my new walks as much.

00:23:04.22
Gareth Flavell: Oh, no.

00:23:05.85
Jack: um I'm a lot closer to like a busy main road dash motorway now where I am. And I can't, I can't get away from that hum, that constant loud hum of traffic.

00:23:11.64
Gareth Flavell: Yeah,

00:23:16.82
Jack: And that's, that's the thing.

00:23:17.24
Gareth Flavell: yeah, yeah.

00:23:18.74
Jack: So that, and like, obviously, yeah, the ween came along not long after we moved house. So I think I have like, yeah, it's definitely harder to get out.

00:23:30.18
Jack: It's much more of ah of a palaver. I mean, she's nine months old now, so it's a bit easier. I can just sort of chuck her in a pram. This morning, so like on Friday mornings before work, I always like take her out for a little walk, give Shah a bit of a break, um and just, you know, it's a bit more of a relaxed pace to the start my working day on a Friday.

00:23:44.44
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:23:49.00
Jack: so can go out for a walk, grab a coffee, all that type of thing. So I've done that. I can put her in a pushchair. It's a bit easier. But yeah, you know, it's it's my more sort of ambitious hikes and things like that where I can go sort of off still staying on like a footpath or a bridleway or something like that but i can't go for as long i can't it can't go along some of the bumpier ones i have to go somewhere it's a bit more push chair friendly or this or that and sometimes know every now and again i will i will go on one and char will look after after the baby or something like that but

00:24:08.47
Gareth Flavell: yeah

00:24:24.39
Jack: I like being with my family. do you know what I mean? i don't I don't really, at this point anyway, I don't really crave that distance from them. went of When I've got time on the weekends or whatever, I want to be with them.

00:24:32.25
Gareth Flavell: m

00:24:36.55
Jack: I want to be in the sort of the familial unit. So I guess, yeah, there's a mixture of different things that have seen it that I don't ah don't, I probably don't get out as much as I'd as um as i'd like to at the moment.

00:24:48.27
Jack: And you do. i fit Do you know what? I think the other thing, Rick, as well, right? you're saying, you know when you're a kid, you want to go out a lot because you do have that freedom, don't you? like You go out and then you're either, like you say, you're going to somebody's house or you're back home for whatever time and dinner's on the table and you know you've got a nice warm house there and everything's all ship-shaped.

00:24:57.27
Gareth Flavell: yeah

00:25:09.24
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:25:09.94
Jack: you're the one that has to sort everything out now. Do you know what I mean? So if you go out, you're the one that has to come in, sort out the dinner or the missus does, whatever way the rotation works on that one.

00:25:13.64
Gareth Flavell: Right. Yeah.

00:25:20.50
Gareth Flavell: Yeah. yeah

00:25:22.99
Jack: But there's that level of organization. So you're never truly free from it. You've maybe got that nagging feeling that there's that thing that needs doing at home. There's that thing, this part needs tidying or that thing needs fixing.

00:25:35.29
Gareth Flavell: I didn't even think about that.

00:25:38.58
Jack: do you know what I mean? like there's always there's just this's There's things, aren't there, that are always clinging on to you, pulling you back.

00:25:43.22
Gareth Flavell: Yeah. Right. So I didn't even, that didn't even cross my mind. Like, so my missus is a driving instructor. So she's out driving most of the time and I'm working from home.

00:25:57.43
Gareth Flavell: So that's great. So my kids have always got someone here. But there is part of us that when I do need to go out and she's driving, there is that juggle of who's going to be at home or who can get the kids if they need us and stuff like that. So there is that.

00:26:14.07
Gareth Flavell: i I have had it on occasions where I've wanted to do a bigger walk than I would usually do, but I can't because the girls are here and I don't want to leave them for that long.

00:26:26.14
Gareth Flavell: What if they need me? All of that stuff. So yeah, I hadn't even thought about like kind of that. And you know, because i am fortunate enough to work from home, that I am here. as as As I mentioned, I'm in the kitchen. So when it comes around to dinner time, it is ah me a fair bit of the time.

00:26:47.06
Gareth Flavell: Four o'clock, tools down, start getting dinner on the go. It's the bane of my fucking life. I hate it. Fucking hate it. Especially…

00:26:55.74
Jack: Don't you find it quite meditative cooking, the process?

00:26:58.69
Gareth Flavell: I would if I wasn't cooking, like, if I didn't, like, go all out and make a dinner and then the girls come and be like, I'm not eating that. um'm I'm not having that. Can I just have super noodles?

00:27:09.75
Gareth Flavell: Are you fucking having a laugh? Are you fucking kidding me?

00:27:15.48
Jack: When you've got something like balanced protein, the macros, it's all sorted, right?

00:27:15.51
Gareth Flavell: But, um

00:27:18.87
Gareth Flavell: yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Got a bit of veg, got a bit of this, got bit carbs, protein. no, no, no, just super noodles. We find that. Like even, I don't think I was thinking about it.

00:27:29.13
Jack: you reckon you were like, were you like that as a kid?

00:27:34.76
Gareth Flavell: I don't think I was, you know, in my household, was, ah can't remember that it was, this is your dinner, like it or lump it.

00:27:47.03
Gareth Flavell: You either you eat it or you don't. Either you eat it or you go hungry, that type of thing. but I don't remember my mum cooking multiple dinners. Like ah I would do dinner and it would inevitably be me and the missus that eat it. And then the girls would both have something different.

00:28:04.28
Gareth Flavell: Um, and then having to get through that. So yeah, it's a fucking pain in the ass, but, um, you know, you got to feed your kids. Apparently got to keep them healthy.

00:28:13.21
Jack: Do you?

00:28:15.90
Jack: do

00:28:16.92
Gareth Flavell: nice ah Try to. i like There's always this thing with, don't know if it's with other parents, but you can't like I can't get one of my children to eat veg no matter what I fucking do.

00:28:30.62
Gareth Flavell: But the they kind of a exchange that we have is that they get slices of cucumber. they'll eat that. I don't know what it is. Cucumber, they'll eat it. And it's for me, it's like kind of close to that, a bit of veg, bit of something, bit of goodness in them. That's all I can manage.

00:28:51.10
Gareth Flavell: Sometimes I'll be able to do some sweet corn, maybe carrot. But apart from that, you I've got no chance. So it's cucumbers all day, every day in this household.

00:29:03.45
Gareth Flavell: Fucking crazy. But, you know, never mind.

00:29:05.11
Jack: you know the The other thing is as well, you've got to think about, Rick. Think about, like, you know, your mum spent time and effort and love feeding you, making sure you were well-nourished, know, balanced meals, all this type of thing.

00:29:16.92
Jack: Then a few years later, you were necking pints, racking up lines in donna kebabs at 2 a.m.

00:29:21.05
Gareth Flavell: Yeah, yeah, yeah. yeah

00:29:23.85
Jack: you know what I mean?

00:29:23.86
Gareth Flavell: yeah

00:29:24.47
Jack: is

00:29:24.60
Gareth Flavell: ah yeah yeah I didn't even think about that. So what's the point? what is the point? I'm just going to give them any anything they want.

00:29:28.46
Jack: Exactly. Exactly, yeah.

00:29:30.52
Gareth Flavell: Yeah, just down a bottle of Worcestershire sauce for dinner. Go on, knock yourselves out. Do whatever you want.

00:29:34.65
Jack: On your super noodles, yeah, go on. Why not?

00:29:36.25
Gareth Flavell: yeah ah

00:29:37.69
Jack: A lad I went to uni with used to have super noodle sandwiches.

00:29:40.98
Gareth Flavell: ah Do you know what?

00:29:41.11
Jack: He used to…

00:29:41.90
Gareth Flavell: I ah don't have it regularly, but as like, this is so fucking sad, as a treat, because I normally stay off the bread and the butter, because that is that's where trouble awaits me.

00:29:53.11
Jack: Yeah, yeah.

00:29:54.14
Gareth Flavell: Right? Exactly.

00:29:55.99
Jack: Too much butter, innit?

00:29:57.05
Gareth Flavell: Exactly.

00:29:58.01
Jack: The devil's there. He's just, go on uni. Have

00:30:00.98
Gareth Flavell: ah

00:30:01.11
Jack: spread a bit more on them. ma look That little corner bit there.

00:30:02.36
Gareth Flavell: ah

00:30:04.19
Jack: And he's a lump.

00:30:04.46
Gareth Flavell: That's the thing, because I try and steer myself away from butter and bread. When it does come to butter and bread time, I fucking make up for the week.

00:30:12.11
Jack: Oh, man.

00:30:13.22
Gareth Flavell: It's ridiculous. But I will do…

00:30:15.81
Jack: It's ambrosia in it. it' ambrosia It's ambrosia is food to the gods, bread and butter.

00:30:17.34
Gareth Flavell: Yeah. yeah

00:30:20.22
Jack: Oh,

00:30:22.14
Gareth Flavell: So I do have… a I'll do ah one slice of bread, butter the fuck out of it, super noodles, whack it in there and have a go. Only one slice, not a sandwich, but just a one slice. Yes, I get that. I get that.

00:30:36.87
Jack: I don't like the wetness. the gillla and ah Crisp sandwich, yes.

00:30:39.93
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:30:40.66
Jack: I can bang a crisp sandwich. Thick butter, salt and vinegar crisps.

00:30:44.06
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:30:45.42
Jack: Go on.

00:30:46.19
Gareth Flavell: Salt and vinegar crisps.

00:30:46.39
Jack: love it

00:30:48.22
Gareth Flavell: Ready salted. oh

00:30:49.91
Jack: I do love ready salt as well. um

00:30:51.54
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:30:52.20
Jack: Salt and vinegar is about as like yeah made experimental as I go nowadays.

00:31:00.02
Jack: You know when you see all the world cup, we've got the bangers and mash. Nah, come on.

00:31:03.86
Gareth Flavell: No, no, no.

00:31:04.86
Jack: Grow up.

00:31:04.98
Gareth Flavell: What I

00:31:05.54
Jack: Grow up. Grow up, Lineker.

00:31:09.70
Gareth Flavell: was going to say, actually, I, so, we were talking about, obviously, going out, and I've seen you quite a lot on Instagram. You are quite, um what's the word? You saying you're an outdoorsy guy, and I've seen you many a hike, many a walk, on your bike.

00:31:30.06
Gareth Flavell: No, I've seen you out and about, Jack. If you were to, let's say for Britain, what are the most outdoorsy type things that we that we do? Now, I'm going to chuck one thing in because it's my thing and it's something I love dearly, fishing.

00:31:52.38
Gareth Flavell: Now, when I go out and I go fishing, I wouldn't say I'm a natural outdoors guy. Like I will stick my hiking boots on. I'll go for an hour and a half walk.

00:32:05.62
Gareth Flavell: I'll go fishing. But that's kind of where I draw the line. I'm not, you know, I don't go out cycling. I don't go swimming, whatever it might be. But,

00:32:18.39
Gareth Flavell: and ah And I'm a bit of a, you know, I wouldn't say scaredy cat, but like being outdoors, I'm not, you know, the weather, it really does get me down. Cold, would rainy, all that lot.

00:32:28.02
Jack: Really?

00:32:29.95
Gareth Flavell: I hate going out when it's miserable weather and it's cold. But when I go fishing and there's no one around me, And I can hear the kind of like maybe a stream coming into the the river or something like that.

00:32:45.82
Gareth Flavell: And all you can hear is birdsong or like the rustles in bushes or splashing in the water of a fish or something like that. Being outdoor then, it's it's as close to the most peaceful part of life I think you can imagine. And back in the day when I used to go regularly and I used to go night fishing and I used to be in my little bivvy on my bed chair, looking out at the water

00:33:17.69
Gareth Flavell: and you're just you know when you're just in a tent and it's just silent you can you can hear like the scratchiness of the wind on the on on the tent and stuff like that but just sitting there or either laying there and being out in the open there is just something about it that it's freedom it's I don't want to get into… um What is it called when you know when you walk bare feet in the grass?

00:33:50.46
Gareth Flavell: What is that?

00:33:50.77
Jack: don't know I don't know what that one is in particular, but there's lots of different things around this, around like getting him in touch with like tree hugging and all that sort of thing, right?

00:33:59.83
Gareth Flavell: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I kind of feel like it's… um It's something like that. When I'm outside and I'm fishing, it's as close to nature as one can be.

00:34:12.69
Gareth Flavell: And it's as close to that that wellness of you being at a, like the balance of not thinking about anything. Do you know what i mean? so for me, the outline outdoors and going fishing is incredible.

00:34:33.34
Gareth Flavell: So I can like understand where, you know, fishing is is big in Britain. But, like, do you do anything, like, because obviously I've seen, like, how often do you go on your bike?

00:34:45.91
Jack: my bike not so often like yeah maybe like once a month because I like to do sort of like actual like ah a journey. I like to do like a longer thing through like, you know, along a bridleway or something like that i don't really ride my bike down to the shops or something like that.

00:34:56.31
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:35:01.55
Jack: You know what I mean? Um, and I haven't, I haven't, I've only just bought like a thing to put my bike onto my car, which is part of the pain in the ass of, I know people say just ride your bike to where you going to go to.

00:35:14.50
Jack: But if you want to go and do like you know, this bit of woodland or something, which is 10 miles away, you can be knackered by the time you get there sort of thing.

00:35:14.87
Gareth Flavell: Yeah,

00:35:22.45
Jack: So,

00:35:22.71
Gareth Flavell: yeah, yeah, yeah. yeah

00:35:24.02
Jack: part part of the thing of like riding a bike and I think that's that's sort of the thing about like some of the outdoor stuff right some of the outdoor stuff when you think about more like biking climbing golf some of that sort of stuff it is I think there is a problem with outdoorsy stuff where it's seen as like being a preserve of like the upper classes that type of thing and it's it's interesting to talk about fishing because I can't remember who said it but I think I've seen fishing before described as like

00:35:46.42
Gareth Flavell: Yeah, okay, right, yeah, yeah.

00:35:53.56
Jack: the working man's golf, because it's that, it's that same like meditative process.

00:35:56.21
Gareth Flavell: Right.

00:35:59.34
Jack: It's that same, like you say, you know, I know people put it on the surface level, like a bit of time away from the missus and all that, but it's, it's been detached just a bit from

00:35:59.73
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:36:12.18
Jack: the trappings of like, you know, being inside something, not inside a building. You're out, you've got the open sky in front of you.

00:36:16.92
Gareth Flavell: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:36:19.26
Jack: Your mind is focused on like a principle, on a practice, be that sort casting your rods or swinging your club kind of thing.

00:36:26.26
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:36:27.53
Jack: you're You're invested in the process. And like you say, slowly but surely you're coming into more of that state where you are focused it's like it's a it's like a zen like thing right and i think that noise being look just sort of the um ah A funny way to look at this, right, an interesting way, if you think about it, like, modern humans, like, human beings have existed for 300,000 years, give or take, right, roughly about 300,000 years.

00:36:55.83
Jack: And I've been looking into this stuff lately because, like, you know, Nolan's The Odyssey and everything had come out, and i was thinking about, God, it's so funny that, like, a story that was written, like… whatever it was, I think it's, I think it's written maybe around, um the Iliad was written.

00:37:10.00
Jack: and i think, I think I want to say about 1500 BC, right? So you're talking about a story that's over 3000 years old, give or take that is.

00:37:17.30
Gareth Flavell: Shit, BC!

00:37:18.46
Jack: Yeah. Yeah.

00:37:18.71
Gareth Flavell: Fuck!

00:37:18.90
Jack: That is, that is being made into a film now that, you know, there's, there's stories and there's ways of thinking that, that yet it's probably, no it's definitely been modernized for, to make it more palatable to our,

00:37:33.99
Jack: of sensibilities now but still there's a core message that runs through that of pride of envy of you know revenge all these type of themes that are very human that are very primal in some senses that has managed to carry through in that time but but when you think about it like when you say even like 1500

00:37:57.11
Jack: You look at kind of the modern humans being around for 300,000 years. Civilization.

00:38:02.05
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:38:03.11
Jack: Civilization, I think if if humanity was a 24-hour clock, I think I've looked at it before. Civilization has existed since the 25th of December, roughly, round about then.

00:38:15.00
Gareth Flavell: Right.

00:38:15.37
Jack: So there's an awful lot of time when we have been hunter gatherers, right? and i And I know you and i have been born into a time when that's not the case.

00:38:19.70
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:38:25.52
Jack: You and I have been born into a time when there's several thousand years of human civilization.

00:38:25.91
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:38:31.00
Jack: But there is still that sort of saying where they say that like, we are accessing a modern world with stone age technology, which is our brain, the way in which we process things.

00:38:39.33
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:38:41.72
Jack: And there is an argument to be, about because I've sort of looked into this stuff to a degree and look, nobody's got ah a definite answer on this. It's always just sort of theory, right? But the reason why, you know, mental health issues, so much stuff is growing, right? In modern society is Really, we are we are animals. We're very clever animals. We're very sophisticated animals, but we're animals.

00:39:07.45
Jack: And our stimuli are heightened, like they're they're there to protect us. So when you're out in nature, what are you thinking about?

00:39:12.00
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:39:14.14
Jack: what What's the thing that you're stressed about? another person or a predator, a wolf, a bear, something like that coming for you.

00:39:20.54
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:39:20.92
Jack: And so your nervous system is attuned to deal with that in that moment.

00:39:25.88
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:39:25.91
Jack: However, now your so your nervous system is hijacked by bills, by cars, by deadlines, by football, by all the, you

00:39:32.57
Gareth Flavell: yeah yeah

00:39:35.77
Jack: whatever it is an argument but i mean not so much arguments probably still existed back in the day didn't they but there's all these different things that keep plucking at us keep kind of pulling away at all our different sense so we're pulled all over the shop we're probably being forced to respond to things in a way that we were never built for but here we are we do it and we progress and probably we evolve along that way but to your point

00:39:40.92
Gareth Flavell: yeah

00:40:01.02
Jack: when we're out there in nature and we get that little glimpse of it, I know what you mean. There is, there is something there like in tangible. And this is why I love it. This is why I love being outside. It would take me a while. If I'm, if I've got the hump or something, I will go out for a walk and I'll be thinking about, Oh God, this happened at work and that was annoying.

00:40:17.28
Jack: And you know, cause you know, cause I do like social media stuff. We'll pay like influencers to do stuff here and there and, that influence is really annoying when we've paid them so much and haven't delivered this and it's really irritating and it's not fair.

00:40:27.90
Gareth Flavell: Yeah, yeah.

00:40:28.60
Jack: And you feel this sense of injustice that they get paid so much and they're so ungrateful and this, and I've got to pay a bill and I've got this hanging on me and spurs have been shit all season.

00:40:40.27
Jack: This is really terrible. But then, like you say, after like suddenly 10 minutes or whatever of walking, obviously naturally your heart is beating.

00:40:41.78
Gareth Flavell: Yeah. Yeah.

00:40:47.63
Jack: So you're getting a bit happier, but there's just… there's something about it and there's something intangible when you're suddenly like, none of this matters. None of it, none of it.

00:40:54.42
Gareth Flavell: yeah

00:40:55.25
Jack: And not even in that nihilistic way. I just mean in terms of like 50 years time, there's every chance I'm not here anymore. I don't exist anymore, right?

00:41:02.01
Gareth Flavell: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:41:04.09
Jack: But right now at this moment in time, I have a canopy of trees above me. i can hear birds. I have my family with me sometimes. Sometimes I don't. I can feel like gravel or a pathway underfoot. All of my senses suddenly feel more aligned to the present, to the moment that I'm in.

00:41:23.13
Jack: and there's just something about that that like is sort of addictive, I find, as you get older. And more of the noises build up.

00:41:29.62
Gareth Flavell: Yes. Yeah, mate, you just nailed that. That's fucking amazing. Yeah, very good. ah like And this sounds, and I know like when I say this, a lot of people be retching, and that's absolutely fine.

00:41:44.82
Gareth Flavell: But there are times where I'm walking and the sun is on my skin. I've got fresh air. I can hear the birds chirping. There's no one around. I'm out in the great outdoors.

00:41:58.17
Gareth Flavell: And I genuinely think… how lucky am I to be alive? How lucky am I that I get to experience this? You know, this is on my doorstep and I'm walking down a few paths,

00:42:13.02
Gareth Flavell: eight minutes away and I'm on the canal, I'm on the river, I'm walking through farmer's fields, whatever it might be.

00:42:16.61
Jack: you

00:42:20.09
Gareth Flavell: And yeah, you know, that's, it's maybe sounds a bit cliche. It may be, but when you're there, when you actually take and remove yourself from kind of the pressures of inside your house, whether it be work or family life or whatever it might be,

00:42:36.84
Gareth Flavell: to actually go out there and like you said, within 10 minutes, maybe endorphins, maybe this, maybe that, but you do, you know, the, the kind of, um, the, it feels like that everything that's been built around you, the walls of these things just crumble away when you're out in the great outdoors.

00:42:59.83
Gareth Flavell: Like i so obviously there's fishing for me, but there are like Britain is full of stuff like ah kayaking. Like I always, when I'm fishing, especially if I'm down the river or canal, I always see people on, what are they called? Paddle boards.

00:43:22.84
Gareth Flavell: I would like to paddle board.

00:43:25.07
Jack: Would you?

00:43:25.24
Gareth Flavell: but Yeah.

00:43:26.68
Jack: No, it'd scare me.

00:43:27.77
Gareth Flavell: No, fuck off. Really?

00:43:30.43
Jack: Mate, I'm not the best co-ordinated, right? i'm Do you know I… You know when, like, you know, with you in the if you and the lads or whatever, sometimes hire, like, a little riverboat.

00:43:42.22
Jack: You know those little motorised riverboats?

00:43:43.51
Gareth Flavell: Yeah, yeah, yeah, a

00:43:43.66
Jack: If you want go up and down the river, you have a few beers, someone wears the captain's hat sort of thing.

00:43:46.10
Gareth Flavell: yeah yeah. Yeah, yeah,

00:43:49.08
Jack: You know when you put your foot on it and you feel the boat start to go?

00:43:52.15
Gareth Flavell: yeah. Yeah, yeah, ah

00:43:52.86
Jack: i shit myself. I i hate did it. I don't have sea legs. I don't.

00:43:58.49
Gareth Flavell: yeah.

00:43:59.06
Jack: So the thought of being on a paddleboard where it's like constantly like wobbling and

00:44:02.90
Gareth Flavell: And you've got to use your core muscles. Yeah. Yeah, and I see them all the time.

00:44:07.30
Jack: don't think I've got any.

00:44:11.00
Gareth Flavell: I see them and they are just paddling up and down the river or canal, wherever it might be. And they're just there with the water, maybe with their friends, maybe not. just going And i'll just think, I'd love to do that.

00:44:27.26
Gareth Flavell: But I've got, you know, it seems a bit sad, i got no one to do it with. And I would be a bit scared as well.

00:44:32.16
Jack: the paddle don't you think the paddle boarding guy that's the guy that steals your girlfriend you know like that's the archetype that's the hey how you doing i'm just hanging out on the river what's that you want to jump on my paddle board and we'll we'll paddle off and find somewhere secluded yeah okay yeah

00:44:38.74
Gareth Flavell: Yeah. Oh yeah, for sure. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

00:44:50.87
Gareth Flavell: I make sweet, sweet love. Yeah.

00:44:52.79
Jack: oh no you got a boyfriend oh no i totally respect that yeah need a shoulder rub you know it's that guy you know he's got a hacky sack you know those little remember hacky sack yeah yeah all his festival wristbands on you would be yeah no you would be come on you'd be yeah you push him off you push him off his paddleboard mate yeah

00:45:02.23
Gareth Flavell: yeah Yeah. Yeah. I know those guys. Do you know what? If it happened, I probably wouldn't even be mad. I wouldn't even be mad. I'd be like, I see. I see why you've done it. Yeah, I would be. I'd be devastated. I'd snap his oar, for starters.

00:45:20.69
Gareth Flavell: That's how angry I'd be. Are you, one of the like ah another thing that I see as well, that that is coming up on my timeline quite a lot, is this… I don't know what it's called.

00:45:35.70
Gareth Flavell: It's swimming, but it's like, is it wild swimming? Would you call it wild swimming? If you're just in a river and you're going along the river or you're out in a lake, open water swimming and people go to, not Lido, but no, it's just open water kind of swimming.

00:45:45.59
Jack: Open water. Open water swimming. Yeah.

00:45:56.50
Gareth Flavell: Like, are you ah you a swimmer? are you would Would that float your boat?

00:46:02.97
Jack: I can swim. um I'm all right swimming. What i will say is, open water swimming is fucking hard it's fucking hard work i've i've never done it properly uh there was like there was i think it was during lockdown i went to this like pond but we drove a bit out and there's like this there's a place called french and ponds that's maybe a half hour 40 minute drive from south london sort of way so french and pond

00:46:27.87
Gareth Flavell: What's it called? Ooh, it sounds snazzy.

00:46:32.44
Jack: Yeah, so it's like in it's like in the Surrey Hills. So when we were living in like South London sort of way during lockdown, and it was when the you you were allowed to go outside for a bit and move for a certain thing.

00:46:43.31
Jack: So we weren't breaking any rules, don't worry. For all the all the clean shirts get triggered.

00:46:45.30
Gareth Flavell: ah

00:46:47.59
Jack: we we We drove out here and I was like, going to go swim out in this pond. This will be quality. Number one, Even if it's a warm day, it's fucking freezing.

00:46:59.10
Gareth Flavell: yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

00:46:59.87
Jack: And I see why they all wear wetsuits now. you know what I mean?

00:47:02.17
Gareth Flavell: yeah

00:47:03.05
Jack: Part of me was like, they're just doing it, show off, you know, whatever. It's fucking freezing. Like cold to an insane degree. And there's just currents. Even on like a a still body of water, there's currents like everywhere.

00:47:14.87
Gareth Flavell: yeah

00:47:17.40
Jack: um So, yeah, it's scary. And I think it's the why people do it in groups and stuff because it's I think it's quite it's quite dangerous in it, I think.

00:47:25.53
Gareth Flavell: yeah i i think so too the thing is as well like when i've spoken many a time about like the sea how i'm scared of it and like ah swimming in a lake where you can't see the bottom you can't see what's around you or anything like that oh mate it just fills me with dread why would anyone want to go and do that yet pike as well with teeth catfish as well they'll fucking have a go

00:47:41.50
Jack: eels eels i bet they're everywhere yeah yeah would pike pike do they go for people if you're swimming

00:47:52.47
Gareth Flavell: I don't think they go for people, but there that there may be an instance if you are swimming and, you know, a flash of your hand in the water or something like that, it may kind of be confused and think that's a a struggling fish and go for it or whatever.

00:48:10.01
Gareth Flavell: But I can't think of any cases where… there have been people swimming and a pike has bitten them. There's been a fair few cases of pike and catfish where ducks and small dogs are paddling and they've been taken.

00:48:25.72
Gareth Flavell: so you know, wouldn't put it past them. That's all I'm saying.

00:48:29.27
Jack: oh you man i'm looking at like i'm looking now do pikes attack human and it's i think it's much like with sharks like they'll attack you if it's a case of mistaken identity right they it says that they generally go for like ducks and small fish and stuff like that and if you've if you're know if you've got a certain wetsuit on and something they'll go for it but there are some there are some photos of pike attacks they are i didn't realize they got as big as they do actually maybe they don't britain but like

00:48:38.49
Gareth Flavell: Yeah. Yeah.

00:48:53.46
Gareth Flavell: Oh, mate. yeah Yeah, I mean, like, you can… I mean, I think the… Maybe the British record is something like £50 or something like that, or close to it.

00:49:04.41
Gareth Flavell: But you get that you you get pike that are absolutely fucking enormous. If one of those hits you, you are… You know, you're in trouble, lad. Trust me.

00:49:14.52
Jack: Go on, boy.

00:49:14.68
Gareth Flavell: So, ah yeah, I'm not in that… ah I see a lot of people doing it and I've got a mate actually that's listening. He'll be listening to this. He's currently training for a triathlon and he will be cycling, running, but then there's that, you know, the, the open water swim.

00:49:29.27
Jack: um boy

00:49:36.25
Gareth Flavell: I don't know if he's going to be in a wetsuit and all that lot, but Oh my God, just swimming in a lake and in a race as well. get some of the people's fuck that.

00:49:44.80
Jack: Yeah, yeah. Have you ever done like a park run? you ever done one of those, the 5Ks, the park runs?

00:49:51.62
Gareth Flavell: Hell no! Yeah.

00:49:52.50
Jack: ah I did one when I was like, when I turned 40, I I'm going to do all these things because I'm 40 and I'm alive and I'm going to do it before I'm too old to do it. And I hate it. I'm not a natural runner, but one of the only ways I can stay fit is just by running every and now and again.

00:50:08.89
Jack: And so I will every now and again run a five k but I just do it very much in my own pace, in my own time and go out and do it.

00:50:13.94
Gareth Flavell: yeah

00:50:14.97
Jack: But like I say, when i um um the year I turned 40, I was like, wow, I'm going to do a park run. Why not? I'm going to do it.

00:50:21.05
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:50:21.88
Jack: i hated every fucking second of it, mate. I hated every, I hate, you know, I hated the warmup people with all these like headbands or they're like coordinated tops. Look, whatever.

00:50:32.18
Jack: People want to do their own thing. Fine. But I hate it.

00:50:34.04
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:50:35.02
Jack: I'm there in like a football shirt, an old pair of like Umbro shorts.

00:50:37.56
Gareth Flavell: Yeah, yeah. yeah

00:50:40.24
Jack: you what mean? And like my old like trainers sort of things. They're all there in all this gear. They're all talking about like this setting like watches and all this sort of thing.

00:50:49.46
Gareth Flavell: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:50:51.32
Jack: and all these things and then right at the end they all finish but they're not happy to just finish they're there when i'm like slobbering over the line probably 10 minutes after them clapping go on you've nearly you're nearly there well done go on yeah fuck off just let me let me be a fat stinking mess of my own right let me waddle over the line all right with all my guts and moobs flapping about like leave me alone do you know mean

00:51:04.40
Gareth Flavell: Keep going, mate. You can do don't you fuck off?

00:51:13.75
Gareth Flavell: ah

00:51:18.26
Gareth Flavell: Yeah. Give me a minute's peace. Come on.

00:51:22.07
Jack: Yeah. So i never did that again.

00:51:23.45
Gareth Flavell: Like, is what?

00:51:24.39
Jack: Never, never.

00:51:25.37
Gareth Flavell: Yeah. ah the The thing that, that ah why I've never done it, like, i competition, stuff like that, just, it's not for me. I know where I'm at. I don't like it. Don't enjoy it. So I'll leave that be.

00:51:39.03
Gareth Flavell: But, The amount of people I do see on my timeline where kind of almost park life is their personality. They are at park run every weekend, doing it in a different place and posting the time. That's fine. Okay. That's what you're into. You know, I post some stuff about Tottenham and all that, lot but running can fuck off.

00:52:00.72
Gareth Flavell: Right?

00:52:01.30
Jack: Yeah.

00:52:01.69
Gareth Flavell: is i You know, I get it. I do get it. We're talking about the great outdoors, but yeah, Park Run can fuck off. but

00:52:10.01
Jack: one of my like One of my sister's ex-boyfriends was like, that was his personality. um And so it would be like, just when we'd see him, he was't nice enough it was a nice kid, but like, it was always like, my PB was this and I did this the other week and I feel if I do that and if I fuel in this way, and just be like, no one cares, mate.

00:52:28.06
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:52:28.32
Jack: you know what mean? Just be quiet.

00:52:29.56
Gareth Flavell: If I feel it's 5k, just fucking get on with it.

00:52:30.54
Jack: Just… just do you know what mean like i've been the boyfriend before with the family the other family you just sit and you're quiet and that's that's all they want from you you know what i mean they don't want to see you they don't want to hear from you they're there for the the actual member of the family until you're married just keep quiet you know if you've smashed your pb great well done no one here cares

00:52:39.45
Gareth Flavell: Yeah. Yay.

00:52:53.59
Gareth Flavell: yeah ah

00:53:00.34
Jack: You know, is that harsh? Is that like is that mean-spirited? Maybe.

00:53:03.57
Gareth Flavell: No, no, no, no. I mean, like, applaud them, say well done, but like let's not just keep going on about it. but i don't i don't I don't want to know.

00:53:13.43
Jack: Let's not normalize positive reinforcement, right?

00:53:16.06
Gareth Flavell: but

00:53:16.55
Jack: Let's let's let's let's normalize being curmudgeonly and and and and envious and bitter as we all are secretly and we all know we are.

00:53:26.38
Gareth Flavell: Nah, me neither.

00:53:28.98
Jack: People, happy people, not buying it. Not buying it for a second.

00:53:31.16
Gareth Flavell: na na mean eva

00:53:32.86
Jack: Not buying it for, oh, you don't care that that you don't care that the neighbour's got an Aston Martin, do you? Bollocks. Bollocks. The sound of a child's laughter is enough for me.

00:53:43.86
Gareth Flavell: ah ah ah ah ah ah As we're talking it about ah stuff like running, park run, is off our list.

00:53:44.30
Jack: Bollocks.

00:53:54.10
Gareth Flavell: but Is there anything else that… so If I do get the opportunity to go out, I will do. And as i said as we've said in this pod, how great it does make us feel.

00:54:06.49
Gareth Flavell: But what are the times where you're like… i'm not I'm not going out. Like, this this is the reason. Like, living in England, for starters, the weather.

00:54:17.98
Gareth Flavell: Although we've been blessed of late. This summer, we have been blessed. By God, have we been blessed. And I'm not… I will never, ever ah moan about it, but…

00:54:30.62
Gareth Flavell: But you know when he's like spit in it's it's grey, it's windy, it's cold. Like, i don I don't really… it doesn't tempt me to go fishing.

00:54:43.80
Gareth Flavell: doesn't tempt me to go outside and do an hour and a half walk. You know, do you think that's some of the um resistance of why people don't go outside?

00:54:58.20
Jack: is the weather. um

00:54:59.32
Gareth Flavell: Yeah. Yeah.

00:55:00.50
Jack: Probably, probably. i think it's difficult, isn't it? There's there's something, ah don't know what it is. Well, it's a psychological thing, isn't it? But, Like when we go down to like Dorset, like we've always, me and my family, and we've always gone down to Dorset, like doing like hiking and all that sort of stuff.

00:55:20.41
Jack: And if if the proposition is like, today is going to be a rainy day, you prepare for it.

00:55:25.59
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:55:26.74
Jack: So you'll have like your waterproofs on and you're kind of like, this is a different type of walk. It's quite, in a certain way, it's sort of exciting. and It's kind of nice if you know it's going to be a rainy day, right?

00:55:38.01
Jack: The annoying, I think I get annoyed if I'm out and about and then it starts raining and I haven't really expected it to. it like it really it really It sort of really irritates me because it's not I've not factored it in.

00:55:45.50
Gareth Flavell: Oh yeah.

00:55:48.34
Gareth Flavell: yeah, yeah. Yeah.

00:55:50.53
Jack: So I'll just be like, that's well annoying.

00:55:50.71
Gareth Flavell: yeah

00:55:53.22
Jack: And I know you say, yeah, I mean, sometimes in the the worst, I think the worst time of year, it's not when it's like super cold because super yeah you can wear like a warm jacket and that's fine and I quite like that.

00:56:03.06
Gareth Flavell: yeah

00:56:03.54
Jack: And when it's really hot, yeah you can do the opposite, right? There's that point, isn't there, when it's like basically mid-January to what?

00:56:14.73
Jack: Mid-March? Where in the UK, it is just grey.

00:56:19.42
Gareth Flavell: yeah

00:56:19.78
Jack: It is just grey. There's no leaves on the trees.

00:56:23.90
Gareth Flavell: yeah

00:56:24.66
Jack: There's no plants out. There's no sun in the sky.

00:56:28.31
Gareth Flavell: yeah

00:56:28.53
Jack: There's nothing. And you are like… I might as well just be walking around in a massive concrete box. Do you know what I mean?

00:56:34.87
Gareth Flavell: yeah I know exactly what you mean as well.

00:56:37.91
Jack: There's nothing to look at. The air is always thick, so you can't even breathe it that well.

00:56:41.62
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:56:43.38
Jack: It's that heavy, foggy, miserable.

00:56:43.67
Gareth Flavell: yeah

00:56:46.52
Jack: And I'm like, fuck it. This is the pits. This is the pits.

00:56:50.62
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:56:51.93
Jack: That is that time of year when it is hard to do anything. You're supposed to go out and do a run. you're supposed to be motivated to shed all your Christmas weight.

00:56:58.62
Gareth Flavell: Yeah, yeah, yeah

00:57:00.90
Jack: Not a chance. You I mean Not a chance. Not a chance. It's bollocks. It's not happening.

00:57:05.66
Gareth Flavell: yeah. Yeah.

00:57:07.38
Jack: That's, that's,

00:57:07.45
Gareth Flavell: No, I'm the same. wherere like i we We're fortunate, very fortunate. Again, it's one of those things where I, you know, I am fortunate that I ah live in England. We have four seasons.

00:57:20.86
Gareth Flavell: We can, as you say, preparing for the weather. So it's less impactful, but there are times where, you know, when you're walking through the the trees and there are no leaves and it is just, that it feels like everything is dead and gray.

00:57:32.67
Jack: Thank

00:57:36.36
Gareth Flavell: And it's just like, I'm not even enjoying this. Like there isn't anything to look at. It's horrible. Do you ever, um have reservations when you're going out to do outdoor activities that there are no toilets.

00:57:53.46
Gareth Flavell: I have a dicky tummy at the best of times. So like even when I'm going to Tottenham, in the back of my mind, it's like, Where am I going to poo? That is one of the things that always weighs heavy on one's mind.

00:58:08.44
Gareth Flavell: Where and when am I going to poo? When I go fishing, I'm sitting there by a lake on my own and I feel a rumble in the stomach and I'm like, oh God, what what am I going to Where can I go? I've got to hold this in.

00:58:24.22
Gareth Flavell: What happens if I actually do leave my rods and go scurry off into the woods behind me

00:58:30.29
Jack: I was going to say, you you don't hold it in.

00:58:31.80
Gareth Flavell: No, I don't. I never hold it in.

00:58:33.18
Jack: You don't hold it in.

00:58:34.28
Gareth Flavell: ah ah Just the slightest the slightest pull on my stomach and I'm running to the woods just to have an outdoor pee because it's so liberating.

00:58:45.64
Jack: It's brilliant, isn't it? An outdoor poo. An outdoor poo is fact like the first few times it happened to me. Well, one of the first, I learned my lesson on doing outdoor poos when i was about sort of 14, 15. And we were we were down in Dorset, like was saying, and we were doing like one of our longer walks. And we had the halfway point, which would always be like marked by like a pub.

00:59:06.65
Jack: So we'd walk like, I think it would be like six, seven miles or something like that, get to a pub.

00:59:07.04
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:59:12.66
Jack: sit there have like usually like a packed lunch or if my parents were feeling you know if they're feeling flush we'd get like a pub lunch and everything like that right and then it would be the six seven miles or so back right And I remember it would always be that point when your parents are like, does anyone need the toilet?

00:59:30.11
Jack: Does anyone need the toilet?

00:59:30.36
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:59:31.59
Jack: And it was, that you you know, the feeling if your poo is like a loading bar, Rick, when you're on 32% and you're like, it's not, I can't, I can't, you can't, you cannot sit on the toilet with 32%.

00:59:36.02
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:59:38.74
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:59:42.71
Jack: Like it's going to be frustrating.

00:59:42.87
Gareth Flavell: No, no, no, no, no. Yeah.

00:59:45.30
Jack: It's not going to be pleasant. it's It's just, it's not going to happen.

00:59:47.00
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

00:59:49.88
Jack: But I remember when we got out of there, that 32% very quickly went to about like, went to about probably 92.

00:59:54.33
Gareth Flavell: Yeah. okay

00:59:57.02
Jack: Do know what 92, 93.

00:59:57.59
Gareth Flavell: ah

01:00:01.18
Jack: just half a mile, three quarters of a mile away from the pub. So going back at that point is not an option.

01:00:07.22
Gareth Flavell: yeah

01:00:08.50
Jack: But naively, when you're like 14, 15, you're like, i can hold this. i can and I can hold this.

01:00:12.86
Gareth Flavell: Yeah. Yeah.

01:00:13.22
Jack: This this will be fine. But it wasn't fine. It was one it was one of those days that we're talking about where it was actually it suddenly turned. Everything got a bit rainy. And so there I am walking down. If anybody knows like the Dorset, Charmouth, Lyme Regis, Golden Caps sort way, I'm there walking down St. Gabriel's down from Golden Caps.

01:00:33.78
Jack: And, you know, I'd gotten to that point, Rick, of needing a poo where you can you can physically feel it there. You are like, you're clenching your cheeks together and you're pigeon stepping almost trying to, you know, I've still got like five, six miles home at this point.

01:00:40.79
Gareth Flavell: yeah

01:00:43.86
Gareth Flavell: Yeah. Yeah.

01:00:49.51
Jack: So I don't know what I was thinking of

01:00:51.48
Gareth Flavell: Would you say a golden cap is turning into golden crap?

01:00:54.74
Jack: it did it very much did because there i am just sort of so trying to go down this hill it's a bit muddy i slip a bit and as i slip yeah mate it just fired out everywhere and it was yeah you know you know you know have

01:01:02.74
Gareth Flavell: Oh, no.

01:01:06.71
Gareth Flavell: what a second what what it and What? In your pants?

01:01:16.06
Jack: you ever seen

01:01:16.41
Gareth Flavell: I wasn't expecting that. Yeah.

01:01:18.68
Jack: yeah You ever seen that video, day um the the guy walking up the… I think it's from Sky Sports or something. They they were showing like the the commentators, the pundits, on the side of the pitch talking.

01:01:29.53
Gareth Flavell: Yeah,

01:01:30.98
Jack: And in the background, somebody's noticed there's this old man trying to like walk up the… Because you know you know when you're trying to get out of the the seats at a stadium, right? And there's the queue.

01:01:40.18
Gareth Flavell: yeah, yeah.

01:01:41.34
Jack: You see this old man. You suddenly see like a log plop out into his trousers. Have you seen that video before?

01:01:45.62
Gareth Flavell: no mean

01:01:48.73
Jack: You know how eagle-eyed the internet is?

01:01:50.55
Gareth Flavell: yeah

01:01:50.73
Jack: So you've got like, like say, you've got the you got the commentators there, like all like standing there pitch side chatting.

01:01:52.41
Gareth Flavell: ah

01:01:55.68
Gareth Flavell: yeah

01:01:57.75
Jack: And just in the background, you just see this old man suddenly like this log pop out in his pants and he like he's like holding his trousers.

01:02:00.30
Gareth Flavell: yeah ah

01:02:04.89
Jack: that It's that feeling of suddenly like of it there is is held in and you just feel the whole log just bloop.

01:02:05.72
Gareth Flavell: ah

01:02:11.90
Jack: Oh, that's how it feels.

01:02:12.09
Gareth Flavell: yeah

01:02:13.14
Jack: That's how it feels to shoot yourself. But from that point, i was like, no, i need to I need to get over this and do a poo in public, in you know in in a bush or something like that.

01:02:21.69
Gareth Flavell: yeah

01:02:22.65
Jack: This is a contentious subject, though, Rick. People say, you know, a lot of our um our DNA, our hormones, our diets, it's a big pollutant. If you're doing a poo out in the woods or something, being one with nature and all that, apparently it's it's very damaging for the environment.

01:02:37.70
Jack: So people do people do suggest you take a ah dog poo bag with you and take your poo.

01:02:42.35
Gareth Flavell: Oh, what? So what having a turnout outside is is frowned upon.

01:02:42.64
Jack: Yeah.

01:02:46.10
Gareth Flavell: It's not is' not good for the environment.

01:02:48.25
Jack: yeah it is it is even even a wee wee even a wee wee out in uh yeah yeah even that yeah no can't can't do anything i mean look it depends how much you believe it you know because the thing is if you do a big poo in public somebody's dog is probably going to come around and eat it anyway aren't they so you know what's that fido what have you been eating as it licks their face yeah i mean

01:02:52.65
Gareth Flavell: Even a way God, you can't do anything these days, Jack.

01:03:06.46
Gareth Flavell: Yeah. Oh, God, yeah. ah

01:03:14.10
Jack: Cut to 30 seconds earlier, you've been there squatting down with one of your fishing manuals.

01:03:14.36
Gareth Flavell: ah

01:03:18.39
Gareth Flavell: i've got so I've got many an outdoor poo story. like you know I've probably got 10. one One of these times um was when I was fishing. i was fishing on the canal. A mate of mine um said to me that he went and got fish and chips and he he brought them over to me and he said, do you want some too? And I said, yes, please. And it sat in my stomach like concrete. And I was like, fucking hell, man, i need to I need to sort myself out here.

01:03:53.34
Jack: yeah

01:03:53.59
Gareth Flavell: And um after that, I was like, i need to I need to go for a turnout. And I said, there's nowhere. We're on a canal. It's just a straight path. And he was like, mate, if you just go around the corner, it goes around to some kind of like bushes. No one's walked here for hours. like Just fucking go and do it. so So I went there.

01:04:13.32
Gareth Flavell: And was on this corner and I was having this turnout as quick as I could. And I'm looking towards him because I'm just looking because I'm like, I don't want him to come around. I don't want him to get his camera phone out and like get me and all that.

01:04:25.86
Gareth Flavell: lot But I didn't realize that obviously the canal path goes around the corner and this family just walk around the corner and just see me completely just squatting, having a poo.

01:04:36.74
Gareth Flavell: There was no cover whatsoever. I'm just, there's a human man squatting, doing a poo on the canal. a like, fuck, yeah.

01:04:45.37
Jack: yeah

01:04:46.46
Gareth Flavell: All I could do was apologize and just like, just like, say I'm so sorry, like blah, blah, blah, blah. blah um But yeah, horrifying, horrifying experience, man.

01:04:56.73
Gareth Flavell: But um yeah, maybe, what can one do?

01:04:59.35
Jack: I can't remember if you if you I think sorry if throwing you under the bus here but I think I can't remember if you said it on a pod or if you just told me once weren't you out for weren't you out for a walk somewhere in the woods and you and you were squatting down doing a poo and you didn't realize that you were like by a footpath or something and didn't a bloke just walk up like walk past you and you were like I you were trying

01:05:27.54
Gareth Flavell: Mate, I was in Ireland. I was with my family.

01:05:31.80
Jack: This is it.

01:05:32.91
Gareth Flavell: Yeah, I was i was with my family. And it was oh it was with ah my partner's family. We'd got a massive picnic. We're out in the big open woods and stuff.

01:05:45.56
Gareth Flavell: I seen that said to my Mrs. God, man, I don't know if I've eaten something, but nature's knocking at the door here and I don't know what to do.

01:05:57.11
Gareth Flavell: And she just grabbed a load of napkins and said to me, look, just just go. We're like we're in Ireland. There's fucking fields everywhere. No one's going to see you, you know, grow up almost.

01:06:09.50
Gareth Flavell: So I took these napkins and I was walking along this path and trying to find somewhere to go And I found this like little ravine. So I just kind of went down this ravine.

01:06:21.05
Gareth Flavell: And started doing my business. And i was like, okay, right. I know they're over that hill there. And then could hear like the the crunching of gravel. And I was like, what the fuck? And as I was crouching there, like I thought I was down a ravine. But at the top of this ravine, was an actual path.

01:06:40.86
Gareth Flavell: And I could see the heads, like the hair bouncing of a family, then their foreheads, then their face.

01:06:47.44
Jack: Oh.

01:06:48.18
Gareth Flavell: And then all of a sudden they're greeted with me a… ana I'm going to poo it again. I'm just like, I'm so sorry. thought was more hidden. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

01:07:00.76
Gareth Flavell: And then, you know, ah they're like, oh, don't mind. that You go ahead. And they kind of scurried off and that. And I was like, fucking hell. not again. Again. Yeah.

01:07:12.28
Gareth Flavell: cool hour

01:07:14.03
Jack: Is it just me, Rick, or is it outdoor poos as well? They're massive they're always massive.

01:07:18.58
Gareth Flavell: yeah

01:07:19.22
Jack: Massive.

01:07:20.18
Gareth Flavell: I think psychologically your body knows, right, this is your time just to evacuate everything. Just get it all out because we don't.

01:07:26.87
Jack: Get the cigar out. That's it.

01:07:28.38
Gareth Flavell: Yeah, get get everything out. Get it out now.

01:07:31.70
Jack: Old Presidente wants his Cubano.

01:07:32.73
Gareth Flavell: ah ah I think um we'll leave it on that note there. that is that's ah That's an excellent note of outdoor antics there.

01:07:46.46
Gareth Flavell: We're gonna quickly go into something only you know, and that is called What Continent Am I in The topic for next week is 1984 and dystopian life.

01:07:59.81
Gareth Flavell: We're going to be speaking about The Road, Clockwork Orange, Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451, and much more.

01:08:00.21
Jack: Oh.

01:08:08.12
Gareth Flavell: Why are these books so successful? What is our fascination with dystopian world, and why do they feel so real? If you've got a book recommendation, send it on in.

01:08:20.06
Gareth Flavell: ah Have you read any of that list? What do you think about those books and dystopian novels? When you hear this, this will be maybe one, two, possibly three weeks before we do this episode on 1984.

01:08:36.06
Gareth Flavell: Go and read it. Treat yourself. It's the summer holidays. Honestly, you will not regret And if you have anything that you want to send in, send it to ladsanonpod at gmail.com. And now we're going to be going into something only you know.

01:09:00.15
Gareth Flavell: What continent am I in? A bit over 10 years ago i was travelling through Europe with a few mates. We made our way to Istanbul. Side note, what a city.

01:09:11.89
Gareth Flavell: As usual we've hit the town and the dirt cheap drinks began flowing. One of the lads i was with was known to be very smooth with the ladies. Well into the night, he approaches me telling me he needs my help. He is making his move with a bird and needs my help distracting the friend.

01:09:30.30
Gareth Flavell: I walk on over and get chatting with the friend. I did not have the same ability with the ladies as my mate, but thought, fuck it, let's see what happens.

01:09:40.98
Gareth Flavell: Fast forward, all four of us end up back at the girl's place and go into separate rooms. Oi, The friend that I'd been tasked with distracting and I started playing some pre hide the sausage games.

01:09:55.96
Gareth Flavell: After said games, I've got nothing. No memory whatsoever until I woke up by my mate. So I was woke up by my mate saying it's time we got back to the hotel. We leave the girl's place and walk out onto the street that was quite clearly not the touristy part of Istanbul.

01:10:14.84
Gareth Flavell: We both have the realization that after earlier being told that one side of the river in Istanbul is in Europe and the other side is in Asia, we we're in fact in Asia and not Europe.

01:10:28.16
Gareth Flavell: Eventually, get a cab back cab back to the hotel and ah meet up with the other lads. To this day, i have no idea what happened between some foreplay and waking up in another continent.

01:10:39.51
Gareth Flavell: And that is something only I know. Well, have you ever done anything like that?

01:10:44.56
Jack: Wait, there's got to be more.

01:10:46.81
Gareth Flavell: and i

01:10:47.37
Jack: There's got to be more.

01:10:48.31
Gareth Flavell: well he can't remember. All he knows is he's with some ladies and then woke up on a different continent.

01:10:55.06
Jack: Has he got both his kidneys still?

01:10:58.20
Gareth Flavell: but Well, he is going to be, hopefully he's listened to this and he can write back to um to let us know what what happened. There should be more. Like, have have you got both for your kidneys? Have you? i don't know.

01:11:12.09
Jack: You remember all these stories, right? They used to, like the horror stories from like in the 90s or early noughties, where there was that spate of like organs being sold on the black market.

01:11:16.60
Gareth Flavell: Yeah.

01:11:20.86
Jack: So it'd be people going on holiday or whatever and having these sort of scenarios where they meet somebody, they think they've gotten lucky, but secretly they've been drugged and they're waking up in a bar full of ice.

01:11:21.18
Gareth Flavell: Yes.

01:11:33.37
Gareth Flavell: Oh, yeah, yeah.

01:11:33.37
Jack: It's none of that.

01:11:34.21
Gareth Flavell: Oh, God. Maybe that happened to him. well

01:11:38.68
Jack: maybe Maybe just bummed his mate.

01:11:39.94
Gareth Flavell: We'll never know.

01:11:42.33
Jack: And he he's created an elaborate story about they want it.

01:11:43.32
Gareth Flavell: ah

01:11:46.66
Jack: we We're talking about freedom is going off for a poo. Maybe it's going to another continent and living your true self with your good friends, you know?

01:11:54.45
Gareth Flavell: Maybe. Maybe. Right, Jack. We're going to end the pond here. Where can people find Jack?

01:12:05.94
Gareth Flavell: Where can we listen to you, mate?

01:12:08.57
Jack: So if you're a Spurs fan, you can come and listen to me on Rule the Roost podcast. If you're not, you probably won't be overly interested in anything else I've got to to offer. But you can follow me on Twitter, at The Trunk, or on Instagram, which is the same. Yeah.

01:12:24.76
Jack: Thank you, Ricky. It's been an honor. And I don't say that lightly. I love it.

01:12:28.92
Gareth Flavell: Oh, thank you, ma

01:12:29.84
Jack: Yeah.

01:12:31.10
Gareth Flavell: God bless you Right, well, wherever you're listening, whatever you're doing, I hope you're having a bloody wonderful day.
